Title says it all. Some of you may have seen this pic on the other forums already. Figure I'll post it here also. 20220219_120521.jpg Sure looked like a nice log to finish breaking in the 2095 but now I'm not sure.

According to my research that tree would have been planted around 1910 to 1912.

This is a sycamore. Scaly bark when it gets bigger. Tree was well over three foot diameter. I wont touch it for firewood as its miserable to split even with hydro. IMG_1772.JPG

They where planted around the mansions in the early 1900s. That is the back lot to the mansion across from Royal Farms by the square.

I would have guessed sycamore… but then I haven’t had the good fortune of dealing with beech.

They tell me that in most cases a beech like that definitely is a son of a beech. Maybe they don't have daughters?

Is is hollow at all James Miller ? Almost all Beech trees I've seen that were that big (or even close) are hollow, at least to some extent.

Beech. Great wood, I'm loading some 10yr seasoned beech into the stove as we speak!

Scotty, you should start selling aged firewood like fine wines.

I'll have to take a better look. Just took a picture to see if someone could identify it for me.

Lol! Now that James has his own big cc saw, I probably won’t get the call as much. No tree will be too big with the hoss he has. :saw:
