I think Horkn is right.. it starts at 20k and gets over 30 mpg; it will sell. Especially to city folks!

What's not cool about a Mustang?

If you can get past the stereotypic US view of Korean cars being lower quality, the retro 80's vibe of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is pretty cool if you ask me.
    I5.jpeg
I daily drive an Ioniq 5, my wife's daily drive is a Mach-E and I can tell you from personal experience the performance of both of these will Knock-Your-Socks-Off compared to an equivalent ICE vehicle and they are not any more expensive, require little maintenance compared to an ICE vehicle, and are waaay cheaper per mile of "fuel". EV's are not however and ICE vehicle substitute at least not for wide open spaces with little charging infrastructure in place, I would be hesitant to take either of ours on an extended road trip, esp in the winter, but they fit the bill nicely for us for 99% of our needs.

Lots of cool EV's coming out.

With prices on everything being as they are, and my pay not growing exponentially to keep up, I'll be driving used gas vehicles for the foreseeable future. Maybe one day after everybody else had a go at the latest and greatest EVs I can jump on the bandwagon with a 10 year old something-or-other.

Cool electric cars already exist...for some people. If it can make Ken Block and Vaugh Gitten Jr giggle, it has to be pretty cool.

Nothing...but that's not a 'Stang! And shame on Ford for cheapening the name!

I agree, Ford should have stopped at Mach-E and not hung the Mustang moniker on it, but I suspect their would still be complaints from the Mustang crowd. And it's not the first time Ford "cheapened" the name the 2nd and 3rd gens get the same rap.

Back in the day, my wife's mother bought a brand new Mustang II, and was proud of it. My wife remembers riding in the car as a little girl and having people say the same thing to her mother.

Despite my opinions about Fords in general, I must admit I have always liked the Mustang look. And it is one of the few cars on the road, I can look at and know I am seeing a Mustang. Kind of neat how Ford has kept that overall image going. That blue one pictured though, I would be hard pressed to recognize as a Mustang.

John died in 2005. British Steven Wynne bought the company that is more of a name than anything. Wynne is only 5'7".

I couldn't find much of anything out about this new version because it's so early in development.

Well over 30 mpg. The base model is a hybrid.

They already sold out of the first year in the base model.

Plus the cost it starts at is a bargain. It's the lowest priced pickup in the US and ford's lowest priced hybrid. To some it's not a truck and I agree, but not everyone needs a truck. Sometimes they only need a suv with a bed.

I like the mach E. Having owned mustangs, I don't like the mustang name on the mach E. Like you, and many others I think they should've left the mustang name off it. That said it's definitely fast. So that checks out name wise. The second gen mustang was a cheapening, but definitely not the 3rd gen. Anyone that argues that is probably a Camaro person.;).

For me, I could easily get by with an electric vehicle, probably a lightning, but our long cross country road trips would have to be using a different vehicle, that's for sure. That is until the infrastructure/ vehicles can support quicker charging or more range.

Long distance traveling as it is 3 hours to the nearest bigger shopping center is what has us hesitating about EV cars. It would be great to go to church and back as that would be within the range. You really have to re-think travel plans when you have to plan charging stops and time delays into your trips.

We do see a Telsa making that long haul trip quite often in our travels.

If you have time to let it charge when you get there, it will work.

Our new office building has a couple electric vehicle charging stations, but with my "commute" I'd feel guilty about charging at work. 8 mile round trip commute with a 300 mile range on a charge is close to two months of just work driving.

I believe they are still a truck, just not a traditional truck. If it has a bed, 4x4 or awd as an option and a tow rating more than cars I consider it truck. Just a different tool for a different job is all. Remember the Jeep Comanche truck made from the Cherokee? That was a unibody truck. I never heard a single person say they weren't a real truck. Lol. Oh and no, I don't own a maverick.

I agree. As a daily driver an EV would be excellent and we are considering it. No oil changes, coolant changes ect. No standing out in the freezing cold filling it up lol.

On the flip side, we pull a small camper, with plans of getting a bit larger one, and travel to other states. Electric will not work for that currently. Not until you can get at least 250-300 miles per charge at max towing and you can recharge as fast as a gasoline fill up.

DC fast charging and reducing speed is the key to road-tripping in an EV. If the battery is warm and the charging station can deliver the power, the Ioniq 5 can charge at up to 230kW, claimed 10 to 80% in 18 minutes. Not quite fill your gas tank speeds but not bad.

I believe the rear seats in the Brat were done for import reasons. I think it was done to avoids tariffs. I think there was a heavy tariff on imported trucks at that point in time and the rear seats allowed it to be classified different from a truck.

Ford most likely used the Mustang name/grille for brand recognition. With things going electric, they’re going to do their best for brand recognition.

I took a Tesla Model 3 for a test drive a year or two ago. It’s a cool car with a lot of tech. What impresses me about the electric vehicle is the instant torque and very quiet drive. As battery tech gets better, I can see them becoming more mainstream.

The auto manufacturers that have committed to going all electric by 2025-2030 will be committing suicide if they actually follow through with it...things just aren't ready for prime time yet...now if they want to go to 50% of their fleet...maybe...maybe...but, the charging infrastructure will have to get some major attention between now and then too.
