Well I was able to get the new Cat Claw Sharpener up and running today. I made some modifications right out of the box though. I was on youtube and there was a video of a limit switch someone had wired in to stop the motor that advances the blade by tripping the arm on the limit switch with a magnet when the blade comes around on the right side as you look at the machine. I thought this was a good idea but figured I would take it one step further. I removed the original electrical box and installed a larger box with a relay , wired in the limit switch and also a push-button switch as well as the on-off switch for the grinder motor. Now when the blade reaches the end and the magnet trips the limit switch both the motor that advances the blade and the grinder motor shut off together. Now you must push the button to restart either of the motors. This way if you forget to turn off the motors and release the limit switch it can't restart accidentally. I ran one blade as a test today and it looks really nice and extremely sharp , need to make some test cuts with it now to see how it actually performs. I have a bunch of blades to sharpen and certainly will have more in the near future. Will post an update when I actually make some cuts with the resharpened blade.
Thanks JB. Seems to work really well. If the blades cut as good as they look we should be in good shape. Will know for sure when I get to the mill to test them out.
Sweet looking machine. Need to dull up some more blades for it. Note: the thread title completely threw me. Thought you made a wood post for cats to sharpen their claws on. I had a cedar log years back for mine!
Yes we need to do that. I’m itchin really bad. As soon as weather is good it’s getting a workout. I still have logs to get in Guilford too so get ready.
Yeah it may take a while for the mud to subside. I keep forgetting about the cedar on 150 in Wallingford. Maybe this weekend.
Wow Buzz Saw that is really nice. Maybe with some experimentation you can get those cuts even smoother. Keep us updated.
That has been a topic of discussion a few times over the past couple weeks. Maybe a " Sawmill & Sharpening Service ", trying to figure it out. I have had a couple people suggest that I start something along those lines. Working on some details to see if I can make it work.
Yes for sure. I would be silly not to do that as part of it. Right now I would have to say it will happen. Trying to figure out how to go about it and make it worth while. Thanks.
