Never though much about having a 3rd saw until I joined the site a few months ago.

This was local, and just too good to pass up so I didn't...

Stihl MS 290, my second one. A little dirty and well used, but it runs great. When I went to pick it up the owner told me it supposedly has a MS390 piston and cylinder in it. Runs good, chain is newer, but filed poorly. Bar looks fairly new. Came with a service manual as well.

I was able to run about 1/2 tank through it over the weekend cutting some cedar and poplar in the UP, twice it threw the chain when undercutting, so I will need to clean it up and make sure all is running true. 20220215_054643.jpg 20220215_054651.jpg

Another case of CAD has hit one of our members. Don't think you can't catch it , it is real and is contagious so beware.

I have a 290 and for some reason with all the saws I have and so many are nicer saw than the 290 it is still one of my go to saws and probably gets the most use.
Used at the mill for cutting the ends off logs and cutting up slabs , cutting firewood in the yard and almost always in the truck when out hoarding.
For what it is really is not a bad saw.

Yep, there’s another one. CAD positive! It seems like number 3 is the point of no return.

Poor guy , I remember only three saws. It was many years ago and I’m still kicking.

I might have to turn in my FHC card because I have no reason or desire to get a third saw.
But IF I DID it would be a top handle Echo pro for branches and small stuff.

Ohhh, you say that now. Just wait it’ll happen if you keep hanging around here.
And by the way…. What does “reason” have to do with anything?

Looks like a decent saw. Ir went from 56cc to 64cc with the 390 top end. Common upgrage to those from what ive seen. T.Jeff Veal 029 had that done.
Canr say a bad thing about my former 290. Served me well for nearly ten years as my ONLY saw.
AND yes beware of CAD. I havent been vaccinated for it.

Yep, love that 029 hybrid sleeper saw. Really opens some eyes when it fires up....
If you think CAD is bad, just run a ported saw 1 TIME....
There would be some XS brands on the herd...

Hmm. Have you ever hot-rodded anything over the years? I think I've (at least) intake/header/exhaust'd almost every vehicle in my name.

    Anything I can.
Being an engine builder by trade has a lot to do with it. There is so much left on the table when it comes to performance so ; heck , why not take advantage of it.
If I could port and polish a roller skate and make it faster I would do that too.

Yep...you are on your way. I was up to around 30 saws. Now 15. More will go eventually as I'm not getting any younger and I want to limit my choices to what feel are the very best of my collection. Enjoy them till I cant.

Opened the muffler up a bit...but didn't want to go too far and make it real loud...it has a lil extra growl to it now, not a lot louder though.
Almost every vehicle I've ever owned
