On 2/15/1946. That was a mere 76 years ago today! I was too young to remember that. lol ENIAC unveiled as the first general-purpose computer The University of Pennsylvania formally dedicates their room-filling computer that the press has dubbed a 'Giant Brain.' The six main programmers, all women, have initially programmed ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator And Computer) to run computations on the feasibility of the hydrogen bomb. I wonder if they had any idea what it would be like in 70 years?
I graduated high school in 1975 ,for a graduation present I received a Texas Instrument calculator. Very basic math and the cost was 75.00 you can purchase same type calculator now for 3 or 4 dollars. While in high school we learned to use a slide rule , forget how and we were probably some of the last to have to learn
I remember my brother having one kinda like this. Hewlett Packard and texas instruments were quite similar with the red lcd display
A buddy of mine had one of these hard discs in the rafters of his garage It might still be there. It held about the same as the more modern floppy disc.
I don't know what they'll be like in 70 years Dennis, I won't be here, but hopefully the keyboards will be tougher. This is my second laptop in two years because I beat the keys too hard. I learned to type on a normal ribbon type writer so I'm learning to break the habit of hammering the keys down. Never had a computer until 2020, just a NOOK tablet. My wife reminds me to "take it easy".
I don't know that I believe in aliens...but... when I think about how technology has jumped in the last 20, 40, 60, 80 etc years....it does make me wonder.....
I remember too my first hard drive. It was amazing how fast things were and it held a whopping 10 mb!
I was sooo proud to get mine too. It seems like early 80s. 10 megabytes and cost 500 plus bucks. My Tandy(Radio Shack) Color Computer 2 was upgraded from cassettes to floppy to this hard drive as time had went on. I was playing with the big boys! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Close! Reverse Polish. Super handy, especially the ones that had a stack where you could push intermediate results.
I don't have a printing 10 key anymore, occasionally I have a lot to get through and miss the tape, but not often enough to justify having one anymore. I found something that will show the string of numbers on my computer screen but it was an "app" and I don't have a clue what apps are safe and which ones aren't.
USB keyboard, cheap and easily replaced. Not as "convenient", but better than replacing laptop annually. Edit.. A laptop keyboard can be replaced without much difficulty, but dont know if that's an economical solution.
I sit in my lazy boy with the laptop on the right arm of my chair. No room for the other keyboard. I don't really mind buying a new one every year. This one was only four hundred and eighty bucks I believe. It is also my only TV. I since learned that there is a laptop made for guys called the tough book or something. I'll look into that one if i don't learned to just give the keys a little tiny tap in the mean while.
