Well it is a casting and it is possible that there is some flaws in it.

Mag Craft I have a head from IsoCore that broke sitting around. You have any use for it?

I appreciate the offer but the Isocore is probably to heavy for me. I can handle swinging less weight but do not handle the heavier mauls that good. Thanks again.

That is cool. The head lives on. Nice work there MG.

I had intended to grind it so the edge and back were parallel and use as a wedge
Fiskars wedge but many of my ideas never materialize. The handle does live on as my pickeroon
Homemade pickaroon with a reclaimed Fiskars handle.

I have the broken second one and may put the handle on a standard axe head.

I prefer a shorter axe myself. I choke up on the X27 all the time and have recently (and finally) purchased another X25. I was gifted an X25 years back and hated it at first, but once i got used to it there was no going back.

Im wondering it there is a way to keep the axe head as is and put on a wood handle???

Any pics of what it looks like? Similar to the X27 head? It was a PITA to get the "plastic" off of it when it broke.

I could see where it might work as a splitting wedge. Never thought about that.

Putting a wood handle on with the axe head as is would require more brain storming. I will probably go to sleep tonight with that one on my mind.

The cutting edge and hammer end were not parallel so when i hit it with a sledge it tilted to one side. I seldom do sledge and wedge anymore or avoid wood needing it where possible.

The plastic handle as is almost fits into the socket of an axe head i have. Im thinking fabricating it like a new wood handle and fitting. Im just not sure how to secure it as i have no wood or metal wedges. Cut a slot, dry fit and fill with epoxy maybe? IMG_0032.JPG IMG_0033.JPG IMG_0034.JPG

I thought about maybe trying something like that but the leverage that is created from having the weight of the axe head out there like that I did not think it would hold up as well.

You could get a piece of wood longer than what you show in the picture and then put a couple of bolts sideways through the handle to help hold it in place along with epoxy like your talking about.

There's a steel wedge right in the old handle Brad, reuse it if ya can.

I modified the axe head holder today so now the edge is protected.

I wish the Fiskars mauls had those great x27 plastic protectors.

Udate on the Brad X 27. Put a leather guard on it. Made from an old belt. The leather does a really good job of protecting the wood if hit by accident. Something I do on occasion.
I have probably split a cord and a half of lodge pole pine now with the X27.
