I’m pretty intrigued by how UVM is RO’ing several days and storing it chilled in a bulk tank until it is convenient for them to boil. That would certainly help fit in around my work schedule. I hope to finally build the sugarhouse this summer.
You guys and your real sap/syrup pans kind of have me dreading ladling between my four steam pans. Good thing I only make enough for us and then sell the rest of the years sap to the neighbor. Maybe one of these years I'll use my sap $ to buy a real setup. Good luck everyone!
I may tap toward the end of the week or next weekend , have everything ready and getting anxious . Long range forecast looks like good sugaring weather
Sounds good ! We usually end up tapping around Valentines day up here....but we gotta lose some snow. As of right now....theres so much snow on the ground....I think the effort won't be worth the end result lol. Fingers crossed ! Keep us updated!
We got 2 feet of more snow over weekend.. Guys on snowshoes, take a knee before you top a tree was funniest sign I’ve seen all year
Getting the plastic totes all washed up and set in place....figuring the next week will hopefully see us up and going ! So the lower tank in the tank tower...gets raw sap from collecting dumped in it. Then..the RO pumps out of that tank...and puts concentrate up in the upper tank...where it gravity feeds into the evaporator pan. Then..the permeate water (waste water) from the RO goes into one of the spare tanks on the ground. It is used for flushing out the RO at the end of the day..and for cleaning out the bulk tanks and other items. Then the 4th tote is an overflow sap tank for those big runs that we can't keep up with ! I'd love to make it a pumpless operation...I have ideas !!!
Even had an oh possum came out to get some sun ! Seemed to be dazed and confused. Maybe it was regretting its decision lol !
Honey Fuzz , you have a lot going on there. Nice to see. Doesn't leave you much down time I'll bet but must be rewarding. Great Job!
Just going by what I see . I know a few around me that are into the syrup but on a much smaller scale. It is a little more involved than many might think. Work = reward.
56 taps in yesterday afternoon , will finish tapping tomorrow morning with a total of 110 to 120 . I think we will have a good run come mid week . Today will be church, family and putting more sap bags on PVC holders .
Nice ! Very exciting!!! Good luck out there ! We still have over 12" here...can't get around the woods ..hoping by Tuesday or wed. To be tapping. Making me nervous !
