I got the quieter muffler on it just got the bar brand new on Facebook for 30 bucks shipped…its running way better and oiling like crazy with the brand new sprocket tip…can’t imagine a saw being more reliable than this one..yeah its a bit heavy but it feels so good in the wood love the way it pulls a 20 inch bar
Started on the huge Ash tree at Mom & Dads that the "Derecho" (straight line wind storm) took down in August of 2020. Picture is of my 555. I'll need a bigger saw as we go. Sent from my SM-G930VL using Tapatalk
I decided to go back over my MS250 yesterday and tweak some things and clean it up some. I reworked the muffler mod by opening up the inner baffle some more so it wasn't just a straight shot through to the output like the original MM was. I opened the output a little more. This seemed to soften the sound a little and isn't quite as loud as it was. I also advanced the timing 4* to give that a try. The spur on the clutch is wearing so I ordered a new OEM clutch with rim sprocket hoping to get more life. I've already replaced the spur type twice. I got a 7 tooth and a 8 tooth to try on it when just using it for smaller stuff. We'll see on that but I just wanted to try it. While ordering that I also ordered a dual pawl kit for the starter. Those parts will be here in a couple weeks. I had originally thought that the timing may have already been advanced enough stock, but reading a few places indicated that some folks have good results advancing it so I'm giving it a try. Seems to run OK with it bumped up. Time will tell. I haven't been doing as much brush cutting as I was a couple years ago so I've switched to full chisel chain and also converted that to square filed like I run on my bigger saws. This stuff has all combined to make this smallish saw cut pretty darn good. I have bigger saws for the heavy lifting and I don't get into very much wood over 20" DBH so I don't really need any "big" saws. I'm pretty happy with this saw and seems to be a pretty good bang for the buck in my view. 17" Maple with an 18" bar is way more than I usually use this saw for but it can get it done if I need it to.
