    Cherry is primo firewood. Smells great cutting & burning :)

    The tree in the back /right of middle of the pic don't look totally heathy either ? Maple ?

    Not the highest BTU but it more than makes up for it in aroma. It's the finest smelling wood to burn.

    I've been known to stop and smell the stacks after some cherry has been split...

    That'll make a nice stash, PMP. :cool:
    Cherry is mighty good, but I think I like the smell of River Birch burning even better. There's a bunch down by the pond, but no dead ones. All I've got left is one 10" trunk of a double-trunker in the yard that died. :(

    Yep, cheery smells oh so good.
    It seems to split pretty easy with hydraulics

    A lot of the cherry I've been splitting has been really straight grained and splits like butter. Gnarly sections and butt sections can be some work but luckily most of the cherry on the property is straight.

    Another positive for me anyway is that it has been coming down on its own pretty regularly:yes:

    I hand split and love the workout . I think because this was standing dead for so long very dry had to drive a wedge in just like some ash I split earlier in the year.I split double or more the Oak in the same amount of time as this took.

    Agreed, great smelling splits but lacks in the BTUs for sure.
    I've been lucky with some black cherry recently, some really nice straight grained logs. Found it a bit stringy splitting green
