My favorite stage—the coaling stage. While the wood still has structure and just glows red with slow motion ghost flames licking upwards……oooooo, aaaahhhhh!
My favotite part is laughing when friends talk about their astronomically high gas, oil and electric bills. I continue laughing all the way to the bank and back!
Bottom line, I firewood to save money. Most enjoyable part is saw time. Bucking a monster tree is . Also really enjoy making a chain razor sharp. When the "chips" come out like this..
I don't have a favorite stage. I like falling or popping a top out or to the trunk. I like bucking up the wood and loading it. I like sitting at my splitter and trying to make the perfect size wedges for my stove. I like saving money and getting exercise. I like heating my place up and watching the fire burn down to coals. What I really like is that I found similar minded people here that have the same passion as myself.
I like knowing that no matter how much politicians screw things up, my heat for the next few years is on site and paid for.
I’m excited about scoring some Sourwood, Ash and Oak today, running a new to me saw, taking more pics of it, running the splitter Saturday, seeing all the empty racks, felling a mystree, the warmth of the stove, the next saw, full cans of 93efree, plenty of bar oil….. stacking splits
Even though there is satisfaction during the whole firewood process from start to finish, I think the best feeling is just before heating season when the firewood room is loaded to the gills before the snow and burning season begins in earnest. I don't cut during winter months any longer. I did that a few times (years ago) and quickly decided not to continue!
There's something really satisfying about a warm stove and a big pile of wood ready to go as a blizzard is bearing down.
My favorite bit is when I use the X27 to halve a monster round. When I can do it in three strikes, and then have the two halves laying prone on the ground... I think to myself... yep, I just did that!
I love falling a tree and having it land right were you planed or the satisfaction of getting a big round to pop apart with the iso-core, you are just focusing on what you are doing and brings a certain calmness to a person's chaotic mind. Dealing with the limbs is probably the worst part for me
Oh, glad I saw this...I might have just enough time to get out front and moon him as he goes by... (Ron n I live on the same road, about 10 minutes apart)
