17 here this morning. Wood Gun still going on last night’s load. I will load it up with some Pine and Maple when it’s needed.
I just read that! She said she needs a bigger gun....I wonder just what she brought along with her? Just found out.....it was a .380! Whats that good for? Not moose!
A 380 is good for muggers and such, but not moose. 10mm, 45, 357 mag or bigger revolver are good options. Carry the biggest you are good with and comfortable with using.
Yes it . BUT, and it is bad that it happened. She had the ability to stop the attack but she was not skillfully Prepared. It's like someone stickin a saw in a tree with No clue or skill at keeping the tree from coming over backwards and destroying a bunch of stuff. Better shooting with an appropriate firearm and sufficient ammo would have solved the problem immediately. From the pics she took , under duress , It's more than obvious that she is a million times better with a cell phone than she is with a firearm. And there in lies the problem.
38 now. We hit about 44 today! I just loaded up the Wood Gun with Pine, Maple, and Beech to get us through the long haul. Should be good until 8 tomorrow morning at these temperatures.
All I saw was the FB group post. .. This is about as ideal a general purpose Alaskan have with you as there is. Tho I would probably be very pleased with the Springfield XD 10 also. The 155 gr Lehigh Penetrators ( solid copper with #3 Phillips nose. @ 1250 fps ) And , or , 230 gr hard cast wfn @ 1150 fps . Will do the job on a moose . Or a bear. Or bison. Ect. But it has to be shot relatively well. My wife's little Ruger M77 Mk2 Stainless Compact in 308 would have worked fine also. Both are much easier to handle than any 12 ga. My wife shoots my 10 very well. And she is 114 lbs. Larger is fine , and there are many shootin irons that would have been preferable to her 2 legged deturant. I'm not much on it, but I wonder if bear spray would work on a moose ?
A 10 mm Glock, that should've worked well, but if she got more shots off on her phone than the gun, well then... I feel bad for the dogs that she didn't protect well enough. Anywhoooey.. 32° ash and elm in the stove. 75° in the stove room.
I have no idea what she was shooting. . That above pictured G20 with Lone Wolf barrel and LWL grip frame . With modified ( deminished) mag release button . Is mine. It is my EDC. If I get to thinking I might need more. I pack my Super Redhawk in 480 Ruger . 4 5/8" barrel ( I shortened it ). I ran dogs, fed dogs , shoveled more dog logs than u could imaging . 1 winter for an Iditarod musher. Dewey Halverson. He had a fairly long and storied career mushing. He is also the one that shot Susan Butcher's moose. Or rather the moose that got into her team on the trail into the Rabbit Lake check point. Many parts of this recent moose in a dog team story are the same as Susan's story. Except, Susan chose to not pack a gun at all that year. Susan was fortunate that Dewey's team was fairly close behind her's . And of course that He was packin. He killed that moose with his Charter Arms Bulldog in 44 Special. 4 shots, 240 gr Hornady Silloutte bullets. That was the year Libby Riddles won the race and Dewey came in 2nd. I was bummed that history repeated itself when I read of this current incident . I think most lady mushers have studied Susan Butcher's life and mushing career. As it is Very impressive ! Sad when they skip over a very important part of it. Susan scratched that year. Dewey said it was almost a guarantee she would win that year. -10°F. Ambient 5mph from the west Snow. Firekilledwhitespruce in the stove idling along.
So, I found the story and read it. Yup, it was a 380 ACP. Ah well , we r all young once. Still 10 below Still have fkws and possibly some fkbs ( fire killed Black Spruce) in the stove. Kinda hard to tell the difference with the bark and limbs gone.
28 at the moment, heading towards the mid 40s this afternoon. Currently burning a mix of red maple, beech and mulberry.
29F here with a bit of snow and wind. Steady temperatures predicted. Snow tonight then cold this weekend. Big warm up next week. Beech and Oak burning.
We did hit 40 yesterday. It's been quite a while since being that high. Overnight? 30 but only forecast to be 31 today.
37 here now. Boiler still holding on with the load of firewood from last night. They say this is our high for the day.
