So I finished working on a donated Mac 160S that had been sitting for 8 years.....with the gas left in it. After rebuilding the carb and replacing the gas line, she runs great. Decided to sharpen her and then it struck me. I have never seen a chain like this before. Its like long rackers or something. Cant find anything about it because I dont know what its called:loco:  Any help from you "wiser" gentlemen would be greatly appreciated.

It looks like an early version of safety chain. I’d hate to have to file those extra drags.

I couldn't see that there was anything to file? I just sharpened it as normal, but whatever those are has me stumped:faint:

Eventually that extra vertical plate between the cutter links will be the same height as the raker, but maybe the tooth life will be mostly used up before that happens.

I think I agree with this.
Isn't the extra hump there so when the chain rolls around the nose of the bar the hump sticks out past the height of the cutting tooth preventing kickback? Could be wrong but look at the nose of the bar from the side.

That makes sense. First I have ever seen, and you are correct Chud, those will be a pain to file down. I plan on using it more for a starter saw for my youngest. Thanx ya'll

I hate grinding that more than even their old Vanguard chain . Setting the depth gauges is not near as easy and straight forward as with conventional rakers .

I don't plan on using it much, but guess if it gets too bad, I will upgrade to a newer style. Thanx again ya'll

It’s not bad chain . It’s the rakers that make it tough to deal with . Get a raker gauge and file ,and learn to make it work . After that ,you should be good with any 3/8 lp chain / raker setup .

I dremel off the bent over portion and use it for sacrificial/stumping chain.

I had a loop of that 91 low profile on my John Deere 40V years ago. It was OK when new, but nobody out here on the Prairies knew how to sharpen it. I think we called it fishback chain.
