Ding ding ding! We got a winner.

I just found out that the 372xp XTORQ has the decomp on top.

This saw was "fixed" by some yahoo who put a.....48mm piston and jug from a regular 372xp after a worker put straight gas into the saw. Had less than 1 hour on it brand spanking new. Unreal.

I figured I'd measure the old piston and couldn't believe it. Doesn't look right at all compared to xtorq 50mm pistons.

Got a meteor piston/cylinder kit inbound.

Here's what a 372xp xtorq piston should look like

Another way you could see that is on the carb. The xtorq is a strato carb. Has a top shelf to match that duplex inlet.

Might better leave it as a 365 special. Or put a 372 xp kit on it. The xtorq is an epa requirement for emissions. The original 372 was a better saw

NICE! I just braved the ice storm to go to the garage to snap a pic. And of course you are correct. Thank you for the edumacation as I did not even notice that.

Well, the guy had like zero hours on the saw so the plan is to just put it back to stock form as much as possible. At least then he will have what he paid for.

Do the 372/372xp/372xp-xtorq all have the same stroke length etc. for the crankshaft/piston assembly? In other words are the pistons and cylinders all interchangeable? I still have 6 more saws that are in pieces that I may have to Frankenstein together. Thanks.

Stroke and bore are the same, but that’s a POS aftermarket cylinder that they put on it.

I believe OEM for these is about the same price as Meteor

Unsurprising to me that it's a POS!!!

I think the OEM ones are a little more, about $175. This kit was $145.

I had a very pleasant experience with the Meteor piston and rings for the 034 Super that you helped me on so I figured he could save a few bucks.

M2theB I just started watching this video by Afleetcommand about the differences between the original 372 and the x-torq.........

    1) I need to check for bluing on the crankshaft and look for any vertical play. Hopefully the bearing that holds the rod to the crank is not shot.
    2) I think I need a difference carb boot based on this screenshot here - the x-torq intake port is way bigger than the non x-torq one! Does it use a different carb as well? Or is it just the boot I need to change?

    Thanks.

Depends on how big of a hack the last guy was as to the parts you’ll need to do it right. He probably converted everything over, but may have used the xtorq carburetor. The original XP has bolts at 3 and 9 and a smaller boot. X torque has bolts on an angle and the bolts are longer as well

    Thanks!

I just went and took a quick peek. Looks like the plastic part where the air filter connects to is also the old version. Single channel. The boot is smaller and doesn't have a tab on top like the x-torq.

Luckily I have another x-torq saw that needs a case split to fix the oil leak so I can take that and use it for parts. That saw has all the proper bits - carb, boot, plastic bit where the filter attaches to.

What is this plate on the side of the jug on the XT for?

It has those torx security bolts in there.

    IMG_20220205_173846.jpg

Also I had to take the boot off of the donor 372xp-xt but I checked and the original (as far as I can tell) carb is on the saw so at least I don't have to replace that. When I went to clean the carb one of the gaskets disintegrated so then I had to take that gasket off the donor saw's carb. Carb was very clean.

Cleaned up the carb a.bit and now I have to find a bit for those security torx bolts.

Took off the boot and cleaned her off from the donor saw as well.

huskihl he did use the XT carb as the bolt holes are at an angle as opposed to 9 and 3 and the carbs look identical to me.

Looks like they limit the L and H adjustment screws on the carb to 1 turn out. These adjustment screws are also flush to the body so you can't remove any stops.
