I C/S/S a big Burr oak 3 years ago and ended up just stacking it in the woods at my parents land, so today armed with just my sled, I set out to get a truck load. I figured after 1 or 2 trips I would have a nice path for the sled... Unfortunately the snow is very much a sugar snow right now and doesn't pack so was not a easy trip loaded. Ended up getting about 1/2 the pile. Ended up with a decent truck load. Loaded some right into the OWB when I got home... She burns real nice. Tried a wide photo. There is 3 big maples that have came down last year, probably 3 cords laying there to get cut up,. Hard to see in the wide photo though. Never ran the saw but was in the teens today and was a nice day to be in the woods and was still a heck of a work out pulling that sucker through the snow.
Actually it's all still completely solid, when I split it and stacked it there I had no intention of leaving there to dry... But then life got in the way and it never made it home so that's were it got to dry, nice thing is the canopy is actually pretty open there so it got lots of sun. It burns really good, No sizzling or bubbling at all and has a nice crack sound when you knock two pieces together.
Yup. Been there, done that. As long as you don’t forget where you left it, you can include it on the firewood storage inventory sheet!!
You are a dedicated hoarder! Would have been easy to leave it for a nicer day and find something easier to grab.
My back hurts looking at those. I got some Burr Oak last winter and it was definitely the heaviest stuff I've ever come across.
