What tools and gear do you take and what do you store it in when out cutting? Whether you're in the backyard 2 min walk to the barn or 2hr trip home.

Not too complex, but all my firewood processing happens within 15 minutes of home. 2 saws, wrench, file, spare chain, fuel, bar oil, splitter/maul, and most importantly a thermos of coffee and some snacks:yes: Everything is either loose in the bed of the truck, on passenger floor, or in the cab on the passenger seat.

Aside from saws, mix and bar oil, I carry extra chains, a scrench, hatchet, wedges, PPE, and sometimes a cant hook. Usually just thrown in the back seat area of the truck.

2 of my saws have cases and they have files, scrench, and safety glasses. My wood truck is pretty much dedicated to work so it always has extra chains, chaps, helmet, gloves, felling wedges. When I go I load either 2 or 3 saws, maul, oil, gas, cant book and sometimes wheelbarrow and gloves.

Edit: 2 lengths of log chain on the passenger floor and sometimes a ramp to roll big rounds into the bed.

X27 ax, Isocore maul and pickeroon always on truck. Sometimes cant hook in back. Saws in back or in cab. Trusty little black tool box with extra mix and oil, scrench, files, extra chains, wedges, folding ruler and chalk. Fiskars cleaver and tongs stay in cab.

If falling trees up in the mountains I take a boat load of stuff with me. I throw it all in the back seat of the truck. I have the seat covered with a moving blanket.

If I am bucking up and splitting rounds at home, then I need just a few things.

I like carrying rounds with the tongs in my left hand and pickaroon in right hand since I’m right handed. Trying the pickaroon in my left terrifies my left boot and leg for some reason. Balances the load out for me.

Am I the only one that carries a tourniquet in the truck and makes a note of where it's at to those who are with me? Tool wise it's usually the ms461 and 361. Chaps my makeshift fallers belt screnches and wedges with a GFB small forest axe in the grzzly peak sheath. An extra chain in the tool kit usually a maul. I love my 10# council tools with the axe eye handle. Seriously if you run a chainsaw keep a tourniquet on hand and know how to use it, when there's blood squirting is the wrong time to familiarize yourself on the proper use.

Gas, oil and 2 saws along with a milk crate with wedges, 2lb sledge, hatchet, tape measure, lumber crayon and moisture meter unless it’s really cold.

For most of the year, I keep a Plano container (shown below) on the back floor of the truck (back seats always stay flipped up). Inside it I keep extra chains, files, stump vise, a couple screnches, multiple wedges, a couple magnetic marking tools, gloves, safety glasses, chaps, hearing protection, helmet, hatchet, paint marker, tape measure, roll of paper towels, first aid kit, tourniquet, and qwik-clot. Also in the truck are a pickaroon and a Warn winch kit with multiple straps, d-rings, snatch block, and a choker chain. When I head out scrounging, all I need to throw in the truck are a couple saws (in cases so they can go inside on the floor), a peavey, a combi-can, an extra logging chain, and the skidding cone. The Plano container is nice because it's large enough to hold a lot of gear, but not too large to be a PITA. I modify this arrangement when heading out on either the ATV or snowmobile.

    Thank you sir! :handshake:

Goes back to my roofing. Dad used it all the time and it slides nicely into the back pocket so when i started working with him in the 1980's i adapted it to. Standard OP when working for me...ruler in back right pocket, gloves in the left, chalk in front right pocket. The broken or worn out ones get demoted to firewooding!
Works great when in the woods and/or the tangled messes i usually cut in.

This is what I did , customizable foam , 2 layers of foam. Has all the stuff I was constantly looking for in my tool box. I think it was like 40 bucks or so and worth it, I have other packout stuff so this made sense for me. Missing spot is my moisture meter that crapped out. 58BEE480-0472-4475-9707-40C76946F037.jpeg E89AE580-9CB7-4EDF-9D6E-EBD3D21C1CE2.jpeg D50718D4-56F0-4C9D-ADC8-8A66541724AC.jpeg

Scrench, files, spare chains and maybe some mix are in the truck most of the time. Grab saws, fuel and bar oil when I go out. Yes, I have missed items in the past but tend to stay in a 15–20-mile radius.

Truck and trailer. I have a canopy on the truck so in goes the saws, fuel and bar oil and saw tools and extra chains. One 5 gal bucket with sharpening tools and tape measure and upside down spray paint for bucking lengths. Another bucket with gloves, ear plugs, chaps and safety glasses. Sledge and wedges, Fiskars x27 and splitting maul, peavey, pickaroon and a hatchet. Several chains and straps along with a come-along and farm jack if the conditions warrant them. A small winch toolkit for my trailer crane and several log dog picking eyes and shackles and a single jack to drive the dogs. There is a construction site first aid kit in the backseat floorboards of the truck.
