In-laws stopped in today and brought Jasper. He's a cool little guy. Didn't take him long to find Giz's favorite spot. Nice to have a pup here for a little while anyway.

Our Golden/Chow used to partner with one of the cats to get moles. It was quite entertaining.

A Uncle of mine got went off to war. Before he left, he went to the local butcher shop and bought his constant companion, his dog, a steak. He told everyone that he knew that no one would take care of that dog like he does. My Uncle gave his life for the betterment of humankind in WW I. The people that told me about this have no idea what happened to the dog as they also are long passed.

There are reasons why we live longer than our pets. The above listed is just one reason....no one will take care of them as well as we do.

Another reason why pets die first is that as lost as we are without them, we do have the ability to reason and can overcome that situation. The pet would just continue trying to find us and would not be able to understand why we just disappeared.

Dogs will betray heir own species for the companionship of a human. As much as we like the company of dogs, if it came right down to it, would we choose our dog over our child/spouse?

Part of the contract of pet ownership is someday facing that time when we lose the pet. It doesn't make it any easier knowing this in advance.

My Uncle gave his life for the betterment of humankind in WW I. The people that told me about this have no idea what happened to the dog as they also are long passed.

Depends on the situation Dave! For me, My Dog looks me in the eye and there is Unconditional love! A many of pets have died for their owners!!! See, people are cruel and can think. What turns one person against another, (most of the time) ? MONEY!!!
Dog's don't give 2 S#!Ts about that. People 99% of the time do! Religion and politics is another, Dogs don't give 2 S#!Ts about that either! I've been in a couple situations in life that (IF) I had to choose between shooting a dog or shooting a person, the person get's it!
People CAN be evil because they choose to be. I never had a dog not wag it's tail at me when I told them I was broke or had nothing for them.

    Yup I agree.

The point I'm trying to make is that we should be prepared for the passing of our pets.

Yes, agreed! What's strange is, nobody really EVER get's over it or is prepared for it. :( Not me anyway...

What really touches our heart is the un-conditional love they give us even if at times it seems like cupboard love. They are just looking for treats! Their so happy greeting for us even when it has only been a couple of minutes or hours lifts our hearts.

Thanks man. Darn pups sure do pull on our heart strings don't they.

We were going to church Sunday and my wife looked at the passengers window and saw her little nose prints still on it.

    Tough morning for my bride.
