17 outside with a 10mph north wind. 73 inside burning hickory splits and an ash round. I got my buck quartered up this afternoon planning on grinding and canning during the cold this week. Also have 4 dump trailer loads of hackberry walnut elm that I scrounged out of a fence row Friday. Also a little osage orange.
Traditionally, January is the coldest month. But, here we are near the end of Jan, so.....who knows what's left? I haven't heard any fat lady singing yet!
Our January has been colder than usual with more cold azz temps here tonight with more forecast for this week. It's January 23, the worst has to be over!
We got about 5" of nice fluffy snow this morning and the sun came out, it was beautiful. Shop stove is loaded with Oak & Beech to do the heavy work tonight, while the boiler got Spruce to burn down the coals. This is about as good as it gets for winter here and I'm hoping it lasts for a while. Work has eased off some & log skidding needs to become the priority. It's been 3-4 years since the ground has frozen up this hard and I need to take advantage.
Thanks, I used to be own another forum years ago. I remember you being own there. Always enjoyed your posts.
Lol Yoopers. In an Era of Hyperbole, Paul Bunyan Is as Tall as Ever (Published 2016) The tale of Paul Bunyan started in the late 19th century. The tales were documented to have started in the Midwest. Since Wisconsin was deemed a state in 1848, Minnesota in 1858, and Michigan in 1837, the timeline adds up. Especially when Maine was logged bald way before that time, so Paul Bunyan wouldn't have had any trees to cut down in Maine in the late 1800's.
Same here. It's just always been a big underlying story here in the upper Midwest. Heck, even the Wisconsin Badgers and Minnesota golden gophers have their annual Battle for Paul Bunyan's axe football game. Oh yeah. 9° out, 75° in. Ash and elm in the stove.
Maine can have the goatman that wears a flannel on the top of katahdin and that Pamola eagle thing. Lol Weird Maine Folklore and Legends
-4/65 Just reloaded with some Ash. Fell asleep in front of the fire with one of the dogs, woke up cold and everyone had gone to bed and left me.
Woke up to 19* , BL, cherry and a split of pine ontop of overnight coals. Suppose to get to mid 30s tomorrow. I hope it will thaw out my water line. Not holding my breath though. I hope it gets above freezing for a couple days soon. Going to the creek to get water for the toilet is starting to become a PITA.
Thanks Perry. That has indeed been a long time ago but we're still around and kicking. Just not able to kick as high nor as hard as we used to.
Buenos snowshoes. We're up to almost 1/2" already. May have to take time to go to the store for bread, milk and tp soon.
