My parents who are crazy never cleaned their chimney for 21 years i called up a chimney sweep and sent him there last year …alot of people just dont think about that chit!
Sooner or later, it will come back to bite you in the you-know-where if you don't clean your chimney. Speaking of which, I need to get some repointing done on the chimney in the spring. This is one job I'll hire out as I have no desire to get up on a ladder to do that job with a 12/12 (45 degree) roof.
I should have taken pictures but i noticed it when i was painting the roof…it was an ugly scene inside that chimney lots of black goo..the chimney is a short run and its brick so maybe that was there saving grace..they dont burn alot and when they do my dad loves to open the door and let the wood just smolder…a site that would disgust just about any member of this forum
But consider how much money and time he saved buy not having a service clean it or waste his time doing himself.
That's insane, Ricky! I had a chimney fire in '17 and still get uneasy firing up the new stove with good quality pipe. We had a woodstove put in and they didn't replace the single wall pipe (I was in my teens around then) it was either creosote or the old pipe finally gave out. Good looking out for your folks!
