this has me feeling anxious and I have more wood cut split and stacked than I ever have. The part under the roof where the dog is, is for SS wood, cottonwood and pine. It was about 2/3 full going into the heating season. I’ve burned way more shoulder season stuff than ever. Partly because I had it and partly because it has been a very mild winter so far. The other section by the pickup I’m glad is empty because I need to get it leveled up a bit. But I also need to get it filled asap. Funny thing what you guys have done to me…
Sold the last half cord of BL and started filling it up. Triple rowed 6' x 16' Cant have any sad sights.
Not a sad sight at all for me. I've got some empty rows now, but the gauge on the propain tank hasn't move a bit in 7 weeks. I can be very happy about a warm house & shop with the knowledge that I just need to process some wood. I'd much rather do that than work to buy heating fuel & set my stats down to save money. Life's too short to be cold.
I look at my stacks and splits like Napoleonic soldiers in a battle against the cold. As long as I dont get wiped out before winter ends I win then its time to rebuild the wood army.
I burnt alot of spruce and cottonwood last year I was surprised by how much less volume wise Ive burnt this year having primarily 20btu plus wood. on hand.
What's sad is all my logs and splitter are under 2ft of snow so I can't process any to refill the racks
When thou encountereth sadness like thiseth.....thou hast to hurry up thy efforts to go forth and replenisheth thy naked racks..... I just split two garden carts of ash and added to the new stack. I also transitioned to plastic pallets so that's exciting. This stack has red oak, tree of heaven, some norway maple I think, and now ash.
That's some nice thick T&G planks you used for that rack! I just scored like 5 garbage bags of leftover 3/4" oak flooring that I'm gonna make a barn door out of.........
As the racks under my deck get depleted, I keep grabbing more from the backyard. Saturday this rack had a lot of beech in it that I moved in for burning this season. On the left side remains some 2 year old white oak which will be burned next winter. I really prefer to single row stack white oak. On the right side is some fresh white oak that I processed yesterday. I’ll need to move the older white oak out of here this week, so that I can bring in more fresh stuff to fill the entire rack out. The older stuff I’ll probably bring close to the house and leave it alone until next winter. Once spring comes it’ll be time to do some better consolidation, at least for the piles that I’ve got to look at for a couple years.
Bought those many years ago from my local lumberyard. Pressure treated 2x6 tongue groove. It was custom milled for highway sound barriers from what i was told. I wad planned to use it as a front walkway/boardwalk at my old house but ti never materialized. I had them cut to 4' so they got used. 16' 4x4 runners on outside only. Third year stacking on it and its held up
Not a sad sight at all this is the end of last years 20’ pallet. Just a small stack that will be gone tonight. But because of the warm temps last season and less wood used we will be just getting into this years 20’ pallet.
Just about finished with my pin oak stack from Mar-2020 here. Next to it is my dedicated pine stack which I will move to the front of the house when I burn through the spruce stack that is at about 50%.
