I used to get wood from a "Tree Fairy" and got some nice scores. He got hurt on a job and started in on the pain killers. Before you knew it, I was pretty much his ground crew for no pay beyond the wood. Just went downhill until I would waste all day when he would call with excuses for being late and only get a little wood. Got to the point I just had to cut my losses. Don't know what happened to him.
For the job you described if he told me he'd do it for 2K I would sign the contract real fast before he changed his mind. I doubt you'd find anyone else who would do it for anywhere near that price.
Takes me back to my younger/roofing/siding days, but that was from too much to drink the night before... Only puked off a roof a time or two, mostly it was behind the dumpster. Not saying it was smart but I was young and dumb(er)..
Yeah seen a lot of that for sure. If it were the middle of the summer you’d get sent home. Hung over and 95+ degree temps are a recipe for dehydration and trouble. Never minded the pot heads either as long as they were straight during the work day. What you do on your time isn’t my business unless you make it my business type deal. It’s the harder stuff that makes fellers unreliable. Plus I don’t want that crap around anyway. Just opens you up to a whole box of extra trouble.
. I agree. Locally, I would like to see more professionals who aren't just winging it and who feel proud of what they can do.
X2. Nobody wants to get their hands dirty anymore or have to "work" for a living. I was four years in vocational in carpentry. Took over dad's roofing business at 20.
I do too. Tried to help, but he didn't want it and after wasting a full day for only a few rounds of wood I washed my hands of him.
That is a really fair price around here a tree crew averages 1800.00 to 3000.00 a day sometimes more for crane jobs .When I had my tree service we needed 1500.00 a day for it to really pay that was 2 guys ,chipper ,skid loader and just a simple cut and drop job if climbing was involved I usually added 500.00 to that number and that was @10 years ago it really depends on your area but IMO his price is real good JB
Try having a machine shop with overhead. People have no clue what things cost to pull off. A lady stopped by once asking if we can weld a chair that cracked. Oh and can you please match the paint she said..... I sure hope you can fix it cuz Walmart wants $20 for a new one..... People wonder why we have NO signage on the building. Keep it in mind that the tree guy is still paying for everything and everyone even when no trees are being touched.
