Woke up to 8 degrees and a frozen water line. The geniuses who put the well in have the water line coming out of the ground, across a creek (totally exposed) then back into the ground to the house. I insulated the line and split a corrugated pipe and wrapped around it. Has worked for the last 3 years. Until last night Black locust fighting the cold.
I remember your post describing your layers. For me, dressing for the cold is a hoodie under my carhartt jacket
Maineacs were working too hard to sit around in the bunkhouse writing stories that they all already knew.
Gasifier; I'm really glad you were able to get your wood heat back up and running before the cold hit ! I hope everyone else's wood heat is up to the job.
Thank you. It is very nice to have it working the way it use to. Apparently that valve was going slowly, off and on sometimes. System is back to working awesome now.
19 here and not expected to drop much overnight. Burning 3 splits of beech and 1 dead barkless black locust round.
I'm burning oak. Probably a few pieces of white, mostly red. Put a piece of persimmon in last night. It was 24f this morning. And it's probably mid 30s to lower 30s right now.
15/71 Just threw 3 nice cherry splits on. Looking at the 10 day forecast and still not seeing a day above freezing. This will make at least 3 weeks without such a day if not more.
+23°F currently I don't mean to seem rude . But it's been a Long Hard winter so far. So. White spruce in the stove. Closed down to a smudge fire. And it's still over 70 in here. Took the bottom temporary draft stops away from the 2 house doors to try to keep the dogs from roasting. The factory vinyl draft stops broke at 40 and 50 below. I'll have to get something more official than the carpet strips I have been using this summer. Ya, this winter isn't going the way I wanted it to. So far the most used tools in my arsenal are snow shovels instead of chain saws and pulp hooks ect. Or my tool belt and carpenter tools. Our Realtor has me shoveling house roofs. I wouldn't be doing it but the money is Real Good , but even more for me. I Hate to see a nice house or even a shed destroyed from too heavy a snow load. And lots of people are just not able to get up and shovel off their roof. We still have at 3 months of winter to go. Maybe even 4 months as crazy as the weather is. I sincerely hope that everyone's wells, water and septic lines and tanks hold up to the cold y'all are having !!
I am thankful for the great lakes around us which keeps the extreme temperatures at bay...most of the time. When they totally freeze then the cold moves in on us. So far this winter, so good.
