Biddleman I have 5 degrees on my outside mercury! 5/71. Just opened the ash pan door to burn down coals and boost temps inside till I leave for work. Will load with red oak.
Woke up to 5 above clear and calm. Nicest winter morning in years. 75 in the shop, I overloaded last night expecting wind. Little Oak and start work.
It's a balmy -20 out this morning but no wind yet, they are calling for strong winds later today. Red oak in the OWB. 70 Inside
Beautiful sunny morning here in South Muskoka On, -32*c (-26*f) burning maple in our brand new Napoleon S25 woodstove so nice!!, Have a Great day everyone!
Respectfully: I never claimed it was the same except for the temperature. A zero degrees and calm wind is not bad at all but with wind it can be super cold. Yet, the temperature is still zero degrees! It is funny when folks get jacked out of shape when they worry about their radiators are set for -30 but then realize the wind chill when driving down the road might be -60 so think they have to add anti-freeze. And where they live it doesn't even get below zero. That just doesn't make sense. In addition, the so-called real feel is baloney. It may feel one temperature to one person but a different temp for another. That also is determined by where you are. In the woods and shade is a whole lot different than working or walking in the sun. And have you noticed it is hotter when you go into town? That asphalt soaks up a lot of heat from the sun and you feel itas soon as you step from the car. I know there is a big difference when I get home from the city. In summer it is always cooler at home but in winter it is not as cold. Real feel? To whom and where?
Exactly! "but with a wind it can be super cold" Exactly! And super cold would mean that it feels colder than zero degrees...not warmer. Hence...give it the name of "real feel"...... or "wind chill" since it is caused by the wind. Still don't think so? Try staying outside when it is zero and you can get a decent amount of work done. Add a 20-25 mph wind to that zero degree and try staying out as long! No thanks.... I totally agree about the engine coolant approach...it only senses ambient temps.
Interesting Yoop. I posted this screenshot this morning. If real feel is wind chill. How would you explain a “real feel” that is 10 degrees warmer than the actual temperature in the morning before the sun comes up? Is there such a thing as a negative wind chill? How do they come up with that? If AccuWeather is reporting -29 F, how is the real feel -19F?
Not as cold as many parts of the US but going to ~10F here tonight... what we think of as cold Burning hardwood and finally able to take the Ideal Steel up above an idle. Still not burning anywhere near 'hard' but now there are some secondary flames in the stove although the rest of the firebox is dark. It is not too often I get to run the stove with actual flames and those beautiful pink, purple and blue 'ghost flames' that walk across the firebox.
We didn't get above 22º all day, House 88º inside, downstairs, upstairs 72º. just hit 20º outside. Oak and Maple mix in Grandma!
It's sunny, 45 degrees outside with a morning low predicted at 26 degrees. I have the stove cleaned out and loaded with two-year-old red oak for lighting later tonight. Stay warm my friends.
