You have to boat in all that stuff? Either way getting fancy! I've wanted to put a moose in teh freezer for years, just I don't know anything when it comes to hunting them... all the laws, areas, how to gut, etc.
I like your out house pic the best. That screen covers everything, 'no bugs on me' comes to mind. Except for the shooting holes.
Yea, boat hauls in canoe, atvs & other stuff. Nice to not see other hunters Few old guys setting up a moose camp for old hunters. We need a little more comfort, nice cots, nice dry place to sit, cook & drink coffee. Some mechanical aids to help us do the things we did years ago that probably added to our back problems. Not gonna back pack a moose out now, so gotta find places & ways to still enjoy camping & hunting.
Enjoy yourself while you still feel you can. I haven't slept in a tent since I got out of the Army. I use a camper when I want to "rough it. " When the rains beats down, ( and it always does) I have dry comfortable cover.
It depends on area for what is open and that is the confusing part and a main reason I don't hunt or fish. Also the rules can change hourly with "emergency orders" that you are supposed to know about somehow. Couple years ago I got "busted" for fishing because I was about 3ft over too far in a stream and that was a "no go" area that I had no idea about. Legal? I have no idea!
Bow season is now, General season is Aug 20 thru Aug 20 but different areas vary, some 25th to 25th, some Sept 1 thru 30th. Was 26° at night, heavy frost, last year on the 20th of Sept. Great for hunting Like most states, Fish & game rules can be complicated. If I move to different areas, I can moose hunt from Aug 20th to Sept 30th Many remote areas also have seasons mid winter so you can preserve the meat. Some are 1 moose some are 1 bull. Lots of variables. Nate, You are in a "black powder" area. Need a special F&G certificate. Bull in your pic is not legal. Legal moose in your area is spike/ fork, or 50" or 3 brow ties. To big for spike or fork, to small for 50" or 3 brow tines (has 1 brow tine on R side & 2 on L side )
Both For "in" to shoot the mosquitoes that are inside before use. For "out" to shoot the ones trying to come in . LOL
With rules like that, you shouldn't have to paint the word cow or horse on the farm animals like some have done around here.
I've heard a few of those stories. Yeah the rules will make your head spin. Brow tine, but it's a tine, not a point, but this that and the other. 50" all nice and good but last I checked it's tough to get a moose to sit still to measure him. I know a couple guys have gone in the last few years and they have said it's becoming much too expensive. I guess it's for hobby it doesn't matter but as far as filling a freezer, they said just go to the store. I've heard numbers of $2-3 a lb hanging weight just for butchering, not sure how accurate that is?
