Donny, Since I don't know enough about the huskies I can't be much help. I can tell you I like the rim sprockets way better than the tooth sprockets on my Stihls. Maybe The Wood Wolverine can give you some insight on converting your saw. Good luck buddy.
I always try to warn people wanting to do it to do a lot of research first. You have to make sure the clutch drum you use matches that worm splines. For instance, in this thread: Chain saw blade won't fit in bar groove Paul went through the hassle of getting a rim drive drum and it ended up not working out. If you find a conversion kit, make sure when you install it that the drum splines mate up. After you visit that thread, you will understand what I mean. I did convert my Jonsered 2150 (same as a Husky 350) from spur to rim drive. There is about 1mm of circumference play in the splines but it is acceptable and has worked for years. I found plenty of info about this swap when doing it, so the answers were there for the taking. Not sure if you'll find it for a 455 Rancher.
Amazon pic of a 455 drum and worm drive. 2 notches drive the oil pump. So where ever you buy from, confirm it does fit your year 455 and discuss their return policy if it does not. Great information!!! Much appreciated The Wood Wolverine !! Reason I’m thinking about switching is I’m tired of wearing out the spur sprocket in my saw. Granted my saw runs for about 4-5 hours a day 5 days a week. I get that it’s a part that has to be changed with use but still don’t like having to do it once a month.
