Thanks for the thoughts on the splitter. Yes, best friend (where we process wood) had a fire. Started the evening of 31 Dec. when his chicken coop caught on fire. Fire department got that out and he checked it several times Durning the night. Saturday morning an hour after his last check he saw the entire barn in flames. Lost a trailer, over 40 years of property, tractor lost right side tires, but seems okay otherwise and the splitter. Adjuster is supposed to go by tomorrow ( 14 Jan) to look at everything.
Stinks about the splitter as I really liked it. We do still have my older Huskee 35 ton that another gentleman is using to process his wood after he suffered a large theft of equipment and wood from another location. Plan on replacing this splitter as it is nice to have 2 available. Looking around options in the $7,000 range if anyone has any ideas. Also, may do another 25 ton from TSC until we get a larger unit in. Should be able to sell it for most of the purchase price.

    Life goes on.

Just finished getting my splitter squared away.

It sat for over a year, a squirrel(im guessing) chewed a good sized hole in the gas tank. So i got that replaced with a genuine b&s tank.

Cleaned the carb tonight and its back to running and operating great.

Realllly itching to pick up one of those countyline 40 ton units though.

Think we're going to run by TSC tomorrow and take a look at the CountryLine 30 ton. Only size they have in town, unless the website is lying.

My wood splitter is my second most important tool in my arsonel of firewood equipment. First of course being a chainsaw. Our splitter is over twenty years old and is used 80 to 100 hrs per year. It is a Wallinstein that I think is only about 20 ton. I have put a new cylinder,a new valve , and a new engine on it. The valve was wore out and replaced with a dual spool so it could also operate a log lift. When I went to have the cylinder rebuilt the bore was scared enough it was time to replace it. The GS 160 Honda was still running great but I installed it on one of my firewood elevators and put a new Honda on the splitter. I consider this splitter a lifetime piece of equipment and with it being such an important part of my hobby if something breaks I just fix it and go on. I help with several charity wood cuttings through out the year that is why the number of hours.

I also have a Wallinstein splitter about 12 yrs old, works great, yes 20 ton, I've slowed it down, but its always split the hardest of wood.

One of my requirements is for a splitter to start in cold weather, at least within reason. Had a low of 10f this morning and was up to 20f when I stopped by TSC later this morning. They did have one 30 ton sitting out front. After looking it over I gave it a try to start it. Maybe 5 pulls started right up and purred like a kitten. I have to guess that it had been sitting there since they put it together so was a good test. I would have preferred to save the money and get the 25 ton but didn't want to drive 45 plus miles one-way to pick one up.
    More to come.

I had a Kohler engine on my first splitter and it was a great engine. Started good, usually the first pull and was really easy on gas.
It ran smooth and was quiet also.

My 25 ton was great and only repair was 1 loose hose clamp and motor ran great. I think this one will work great for many years to come. Just wish there were better options for USA built units that don't have a long waiting list and maybe I should have done more research.

Dirty hands tools 25 to splitter. Picture from a few summers ago. Plenty of power and have only had issues with bad spark plugs. My one large regret is not buying a log catcher right after purchasing the splitter. Now DHT went bankrupt and I cannot find a log catcher for sale online. 0810191812a-1.jpg

Wouldn't think it would be very hard to make one. You could also find a table like we had easy to move around and just pivot out of the way to gas up and start the motor, plus it protects the motor from stray wood. We would fill the table and split from it.

You dont need a specific DHT log catcher.

The one from a county line or black diamond will bolt right up.

I was just looking on YouTube and I think I have some materials in the pole barn to make a log cradle out of a metal grate I have and a bed frame.

First thought I had as well was to make one.
    Metal grate should work perfect.

i like that table….…:sherlock:…. I need something for my right hand side of the splitter to hand off to when splitting bigger chunks… instead of currently placing them on the ground against the tire.

I can slide wood around on without hanging up

Is that a custom exhaust system that runs diagonally under the beam?
It must make it quieter if so by directing it away from operator area.

My old splitter was very noisy and I did think about doing something but just never got around to it before I sold it.
