    I don’t hoard firewood.
I just use my chainsaw a lot.

We're here for your addiction! I burned wood for a while before I found the club. Never saw myself where I am today but the more you browse around here, the more great info and ideas you find. Fast forward a bunch of years and I believe I'm well past 5 years worth of wood. What this does is set you up for a successful experience, in many ways, burning wood.

Once you get to that 3 yr. Plan if you get sick or injured and can't c/s/s you don't have to worry as you got your winter heat all done. Also at that point you can slow down a bit as you will already have a good supply.

Well , I was sort of in your shoes as well when I stumbled onto the forums.
I did have multiple saws and a splitter but was going on a year to year plan without looking too far ahead.

Then the FHC plan came into the picture.
With that came more saws , new splitter , tractor , chainsaw mill ( don't forget the saws to power it ) and a bandsaw mill..
damm , this place is bad news. LOL

Best bad habit ever. Thanks to everyone here for making this addiction so much fun.
And it makes my wife happy too , not only does it keep us warm but keeps me out of the house.

Dangit Karl, Once you reach your 3 year plan, just remember there's more firewood out there, you have to grab it while you don't need it. Enjoy the ride!

My wife only complains about my addiction when the firewood hoard interferes with opening her car door. I can not find another "hobby" which pays for itself more than heating with wood.

    LOL , now that's a good one.
And very true , it is a sort of addiction but also a hobby that has major benefits.

Not sure about paying for itself though? No paying the gas or oil company but my power equipment bill has gone up.
At least that is an investment that will last for years to come.

I hand split and all my wedges, 4, are over 10 years old as is my sledge hammer, 5 pound. My transportation cost is $50 per cord at today's gasoline price (it was $40 per cord). My total investment in two chainsaws (both 14"), including 15 spare chains, is $900, all less than three years old. I heat only with firewood, 5 full cords +/- per year, and my backup is propane. Meanwhile, I keep my house warmer on wood than if I were burning propane which my wife appreciates. But when the wood hoard interferes with opening her car door she does say enough... (true story)

Time for a James Bond'omatic automatic door opener , then you won't have to worry about it.
Hey , they have remote starters so why not a door opener?
Maybe I am on to something , this could my ga-zillion dollar idea for an early retirement ? You never know

A member here has a signature line that goes something like this “the more firewood I produce the healthy I am, the lower my utility bill is, the more wood I burn the less clothes my wife wears; what’s not to like about this situation?”

So again, how many chainsaws, splitters, etc. do you have? Living on the edge if you don't have backups and backups for the backups.

I worded my first response in here that way and look at me now. Oh we'll support you all right in hoarding more wood, buying more chain saws etc. We're a special kinda crazy here!
