My bride is finally getting the kitchen all spiffied up, so I took advantage of some of the old cabinets and had the guys cut a cool door in the back of the shop. I've wanted a door there since we bought the place. Used the outside plywood and boards as the door. My honey said she really didn't want an ugly white door there so... Gonna do the zig zag boards on the inside eventually, to help hide the old nails and scarfin'. Sure is nice to see out back from inside the shop, and to get out there without having to open one of the big doors.
Looks great! You'd almost never know there was a door there except for the hardware. Gotta love t-111.
Yeah, my honey likes it. Looks a lot like T-111 but it's actually shiplap boards nailed to the 1/2" plywood that was the sheathing over the 2x6 framing.
Yup. It has a hot water blower unit next to the new door that does a good job of keeping the shop/garage plenty warm enough in the winter to work out there. I keep it at 45 when I'm not out there and I have the therm on a switch so I can go cold too (doors open) if I have to. There's a bedroom & bath above the shop so I have to keep things warm enough to prevent water lines from freezing, unless I want to drain the lines. The heating system tho has anti-freeze in it so, it's never a prob. Now that we've been here thru 2 winters, I know the system well and like it a lot. I'd like it more if the hot water was made with wood heat but...
Giz is always on my six. Lately, with all the activity (strange men she doesn't know around) she's had to chill out more than usual. She just wants to... ... all the time...
Very nice job... I like that it's made from the same material as the exterior siding. Blends right in. Do you need to put a lock on it since it's an exterior door? Nice hanging heater too... A long time ago I had a wood stove that had a tube running through it to heat your hot water, never used it though.
Thx Fan. This was a side project for the guys really. But, it's the one I really wanted... Yep, the thumb latch handle has the bolt on the inside, that goes up and down with the thumb lever. Then, it pushes sideways into the door frame as a lock. Pretty simple and slick. I'd put a woodstove out there but I'm getting spoiled with the ease of the blower. Just really nice to go out there first thing in the morning, in Feb, kick it up to 65, go back and have a couple cups of coffee... an hour later, it's at least 60 in there. This is the first place we've owned with an attached garage that's heated too. Now, I just gotta get enough stuff up on nails, screws, hooks n' shelves... so we can keep my honey's Subaru in there during the winter...
