If its pear, its non fruit bearing. Often planted in Tim Hortons coffee shop, ornament tree. Second one is definitely kentucky coffee tree
I was thinking coffee tree on that second one but the leaves look slightly different that the ones I've seen here....
This should be a simple one for you gurus. I’m slowly trying to learn species. Anybody know this log in my pile? Located in Southern Vermont and cut not far from here. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks Erik, I was think Oak and not Red oak. Wasn’t sure about after that. Now I know! Lenny Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
For me, tree ID is a little more difficult in winter but I just noticed one thing for the first time today: Besides their often contorted timber form, boxelder hold on to their prolific seed pods (samaras) into the winter.
The little bit of wood grain I can see looks like some kind of oak. A picture of the end grain and a split piece would help further.
I'm positive it's oak of some sort, and judging by the smooth bark it looks like it could be a relatively young red oak. I'm sticking with red oak family anyway, as opposed to white. Member Chud lives in your state, maybe he can offer a more definitive ID.
Thank you for the help. I have had it seasoning for 3 years and that one split is still heavy as heck. Threw me off.
