I think you need 3 hands to start it.
Right hand hold down choke, right hand starter, no throttle lock and no way to get a good grip.

You need to get a foot involved in there somehow.

Screwloose, I also have a Mcculloch Super 44 and also agree that it does have a lot of compression. I have been using a vise to hold the saw. That will at least free up one of the three hands required to start this saw. If there was a saw that needed a compression release this saw would rank in the top 5 of high compression saws.

    Cool old school saw!

You can work the choke and throttle with you left hand while pulling with your right if you use this method. ;)

Heard folks say it was easier if you put tue saw over a log. Then hold the throttle open with left index finger and hold choke down with left thumb.
    Pull with right hand.

That would work if you are right handed. I would have to some excises to help build up my right side as I'm left handed

I actually bought it sight unseen and was surprised how bulky it is. This might be my only starter on right side saw.
Nothing i see is cracked or welded. Spikes gone. Supposedly a one family owner saw.

Took it out one time for some big oak. It spends most of the time on the shelf.

And to think when the saw was bought it was a vast improvement and considered state of the art !! 50 years from now and I wonder what will be said about our current offerings ?

Ok so it looks like your super 44 is a 80cc and is a model year older than my 44A that is 87cc. I wonder how many versions of these they made? I wish my wrap handle looked as good as yours. I see that your saw doesn't have spikes either.
I didn't notice the goose on my saw above the oil tank until I saw it on yours.

Nice looking Macs !! customer came in 2 days ago and asked me if I would trade a chain sharpening and service on a 044 for a old saw he wanted to get rid of and being the proper nut that I am I looked at the saw and said sure!! the first new to me saw this year shot some gas in it and it fires another project to the pile:rofl: :wacky::headbang:JB DSCF2004.JPG DSCF2005.JPG

yes i was going to add the spikes, but have not got around to it. I don't use it for a daily runner, just use it whenever the mood strikes.
