Big fat oak.

Been meaning to get this one down for a while .... 64 and sunny seemed like the right time.

Good size. What was the stump diameter? Lots of wood from that one. What saw did the honors?

Didn’t measure the tree but can tomorrow. I am guessing 34”-36” or so ? Was the MS311 and 20” bar. Could not quite reach the middle of the back cut but that much weight she went anyway. We got a good video of it falling. Have some big big branches buried so will have to be careful this weekend getting it on the ground and safe.

 

That looks like fun. Is it right in your yard so you can work on it at your leisure?

 

Yeah , in between the two properties we own but on ours. No rush to get it cleaned up but I don’t sit idle well so if the snow holds off Saturday I plan to get it done, if mot Sunday after church.

 

I cut mine an average of 20”, I am curious if the Gorillabac lift can handle that trunk at 20” long. May be the heaviest wood I have tried on it.

 

I am calling it a red oak , identifying trees isn’t my strongest field. Anyone have any input ?

 

Have a leaf laying around you can share a pic of?

 

I can get one tomorrow, I found some on the ground that were pointed at the top but there is another oak that I believe to be a pin oak not far from this one. There were some clusters of leaves holding on this one I can get.

 

Red oak. In the second picture you can see leaves still attached to a branch. When you blow the picture up you can see the leaves are pointed meaning red oak.
