Praying it won't hurt by the time I get to the dentist in the morning...... If there is a dentist that can fit me in, a very small town. I have not used my new dental insurance in this state yet so hoping it won't cost too much. DH brought home McD's for dinner, guess I got the burger with bones...

And yes, my teeth are compromised from the medications I take and I am overdue for a dental exam. No hard feelings to McD's.

Currently excersizing self control to not mess with or dislodge the loose side.

    (sigh)

I hope I never need dental. Have yet to get even a cavity so I don't bother with dental insurance.

Not fun. Hope you can get a dentist to make the tooth whole again.

Emergency visit to dentist this am. I am taking my chances and waiting for a "scheduled appt" on Friday to get it fixed. I guess either root canal but hope for a crown ! I have dental insurance but there is a waiting period for certain treatements. I am new to this state and had to buy new insurance as my long time insurance is not accepted in this state. what a crock of potatos!

    I hate loving using prednisone...

LOL! I was discussing with hubby tonight I think my medical conditions may ruin my teeth in the next few years and we talked about dentures and implants. Though I could get by with just a molar or two to eat, I would still like smile... We shall see in the coming years. Thanks Jack!

Been exactly where you are last year. Right before a trip away with my wife I had an infected root
in one of my molars...on a friday afternoon.
I got a visit on a monday to see an endo (root canal specialist) and he said he would do the first
1/2 of the procedure that day. As he was cleaning out the roots and placing in some antibiotics
    the pain all went away.
I already had a crown on that tooth so the finish work was simple.
I felt so much better after the work was done.
insurance covered 70%, I paid 30% out of pocket.

I guess it depends how deep the crack is... it its into the root your def. gonna need a root canal, and then crowning that will depend on how much of the top of hte tooth they need to grind away. If its in the root you know it, will hurt like a #*&$(*&#$.

RCs are not fun. Not to scare you, once novicaned up they don't hurt any more than a filling, but they take a loooong time to do and a lot of follow ups. I let my teeth go in college and had to get one in the rearmost bottom left molar. My parents dentist did that one but he was not great and somehow missed a root that ended up infected 5-6 years later.. That time I was sent to an endo who did it right, and unlike the family dentist it only took 1 visit for the RC, then a follow up to crown it.

Then last year the tooth under the edges of the crown was in bad shape per my dentist (after ~ 10 years) so I had the crown redone again. Fun stuff.

I have bad luck with teeth. Braces for years as a kid, had one of those jaw expanders at least 7 extractions including the 4 wisdoms, and I lost count of how many cavity fillngs. Lately my dentist is yelling at me that I grind my teeth from stress too much and its eroding the enamel. And they say I have receeding gums.

Yeck..... Im gonna be living on smoothies in retirement!

I never had a lot of problems with my teeth until I got dental and could afford to go and get checkups. Then the fun began--

But in all seriousness, I had a broken molar (after biting down of a piece of hard chocolate!) and they had to take it out. They also wanted to make a "bridge" between the other teeth; but as that involved destroying the two sentry teeth to fit fake teeth over them, and then there is a false tooth where the missing one was that would need special care, I opted to just let it go. No one really sees the gap, and I can chew with the other teeth.

Had a root canal, the only thing that really hurt was the needles to numb me, and the cost.

Those crowns used to be called caps. with what they cost, it's no wonder they changed the name.

Look at what you can afford. Then make choices. The important thing to keep in mind is that bad teeth can cause heart problems. Very serious. Prevention and correction. Better to have plastic teeth than infections that can cause heart disease. Also, if you ever need a joint replacement, your teeth have to be in good condition first.

Never had a root canal and don't know a moler from a chipper. Never had dental insurance either. However, about a month ago one of my front teeth had a chip come out and it basically had to be rebuilt on the one side. Last week, the other side happened the same way. Got right in and the dentist was able to fix it.

We have a great dentist. Both times when I had the chip off the tooth (from top to bottom), I got in the next day. Could have got in sooner but I was in no pain.

My big filling as of Wed was to be $199. Now its over $2000.

They didn't want me to sign consent form since I took a zanex (I have an irrational fear of drills lol). The bottle was prescribed in 2011, I didn't like the way they made me feel. Turns out I had Graves disease (hyperthyroid) so zanex did nothing for that anyway, HOWEVER I knew funny feeling they gave me would help me with the drilling :) On the way out to my husbands truck so he could sign the papers for me the nurse mentioned my second molar, looked in the truck mirror to touch back molar the big chunk fell off! Went back in, 20 minutes later bill is 10X higher. How did they miss that with xrays and exam?? They were actually going to fill an old chip on the next tooth. CRAZY

My last root canal w crown was employer paid dental insurance. It was a flat $50 copay. Wyoming insurance sucks.

Good news is I don't need a root canal, just shaping and building it up for a crown! Sensitive from dentin exposed but not bad pain! I am now rescheduled for a 2 hour appt next week.......

I can somewhat relate. I woke up the other morning and noticed I have a filling missing. No idea when I lost it (or where it went), but its getting patched up next Wednesday.

...and THAT"s how the get you:rofl: .
Nothing irrational about a fear of dental drills, your body is just trying to protect itself. So sorry your problems escalated, this happens to me all the time. One thing leads to another, then they find something else, complications arise, etc. I know what you are going through.
In MD, dental insurance is considered some kind of privilage. There was a case a few years ago of a child on public assistance who had an infection in a tooth and died. Usually public assistance (Medicaid) is carte blanc, covers more than private insurance. Apparently, they don't consider your teeth part of your body.

Interestingly, I don't mind needles. I get monthly blood tests that don't bother me a bit! But I get squirrly with drills :bug: The dentist had closed by the time I remembered your post. I will call on Monday and see if I can can get it pulled for less. Its the very back one so I won't need a bridge. I have never missed my wisdom teeth. I have a girlfriend with a middle molar missing extracted, she cracks me up unconsciously says "in the hole" "not in the hole" when she chews gum. Adorable! thanks for you input firebroad.
