+1, totally agree....this forum is 100% better, no stress no grief and NO pompus, egotistical attitudes... btw, only have had 2 beer so far
I didn't recall that you got the boot. You are among the most respected posters on the forum. That is a theme in this forum. Have fun and try to help. Good job !
Backwoods got booted? Well then...........nuff said. I guess it doesn't matter since this is the only wood related forum I frequent now. Scotty and all the mods here do a bang up job. Thanks guys.
Yes, the Backwoods Savage got the boot! tis okay though. No hard feelings but I do still get a chuckle out of it from time to time. I also still converse with some who are still over there.
I've seen a couple of other fora go through similar..... I was also at the other place way back when elkimmeg split off and started his own forum, which lasted a little while. I always liked elk, he had more posts than BB and BG combined, and he got the boot too. This place seems to be going like gangbusters. I had noticed a falloff in (non-mod, non-newbie) traffic at the other place, figured it was just a summer effect. Y'all need to up your game in Google, social media, etc. and arrange a few links from places like woodheat.org, to start pulling in the newbs.
On google we need to figure out how to come up as a result for wood, chainsaw, and wood stove forums. However, do a search for firewood forum and we are #1!
Post counts are just numbers. It is the content and the character of the posting member which is important to me. I see here that new members can jump in, put up a post and get heartily welcomed. It is like a potluck dinner here, everyone brings something to the table to contribute and make it what it is. The choice of forum topics to post in is also great, as many here share common interests. My strong suit is not in saws, splitters or woodpiles, but I try to put up something of value to add interest.
I noticed the same. Its always slow in the summer.... and honestly I ifgured I just never notice because I too dissapear in the summer and spend what little forum time talking on my RC and old house boards since Im nore into that this time of year. But it is slower over there for sure. I will still go there for conservation related topics in the green room, but for general shoot the chit talk and BSing about hobbies and showing off wood scores it seems to fit better here. I just dont bother to read or post in the actual stove rooms much anymore as I finally got my issues worked out. Come fall I look for and jump into any VC discussions as that's directly relevant to me. Speaking of which... It will soon be time to launch the annual VC burners "share the pain" thread (hello @reckless @defiant @BrowningBAR ) Shall I launch that here? or there? or both? decisions....
I'll be perfectly honest guys, I LOVED that site with my heart and soul......and I loved the members there, and even liked the moderators through the animosity. Sadly, when political views got hashed into the mix, those feelings transgressed into other facets on the site. Which is why we keep politics OUT here...I heard a certain sub-forum no longer exists over there and I truly believe that will make the site a better place in the future. You guys are ultimately what makes this site so great, because you keep it classy and share a wealth of information. I'm very proud of all of you, and glad to call all of you my firewood family. I honestly wish them the very best over there. I think we've done a good job at keeping things in check, I hope they are doing the same. Bad - mouthing of that site is not permitted there, whether they agree with us or not I still consider them friends. So let's let the bygones be bygones.
I'm over it. I look at it this way if it weren't for that site most us us would never have connected and there wouldn't be this site I choose to hang here because all my friends from the other side are here and I can just be me here and have fun
The best thing about this forum is that it is SINCERE. As someone else said, volume isn't important. The character of the people behind the scenes and posters are what matters.
I think all these nice comments should put a big smile on the people that worked hard to get this place going. Thanks to all the FHC crew that made "here" a place we can all call home!!
Just met a guy from NH today who noticed my firewood. One thing led to ten and before you know it I was telling him about this place. He's "one of us"... burns wood, loves it, loves the woods, loves that people think he's nuts, loves hanging around with other nutty people... Gets all the firewood he can use from the local golf course. They even let him use their truck to get it to his house. Bet he'll show up here...
