I decided to upgrade to the aircare. Supposedly, its rated for 2700 sq ft. The smaller vornado that worked great, is rated of 700 sq ft.

Air care 6 gallon $120

Vornado 1 gallon $75

 

Slowly warming up here. Should be 20s in the morning. Beech and what looks like Maple burning.

 

29F here with light rain & some ice. Supposed to warm up overnight, then get colder again tomorrow. 29 & damp with a breeze feels way worse than 10 & clear did the last few nights. Threw some mixed hardwoods in the boiler & will let the shop stove go till morning so it doesn't get too hot.

 

Warmed up to 31 today. Balmy 79 inside burning a mix of elm, maple, and mulberry. Baking sweet potatoes and veggies in the oven for an hour contributed, too.

 

18/74 burning mulberry.
1/4” of ice coming tomorrow, starting at 7a.

18 F outside here. We got 6” of fresh snow today. That makes 18” of snow in the last week. We need it badly.

I’m burning Aspen and Douglas Fir in the Oslo. I’m drying some snow covered splits by the stove. It smells nice and adds a little humidity to the air. It’s something my dad has always done. Fond memories as a kid.

 

10 degrees and burning some oak and cherry. Snow expected in the morning here in n Southern Vermont. Got a couple inches Friday.

Got cold over the weekend and both stoves are cranking now. The shop Woodchuck furnace is running on butternut pretty well mainly and the Lopi Leyden is started on the the “good stuff” for January. Oak and cherry that’s a little over 2 years old CSS. I just got up to fill the Lopi one last time for the night hopefully.
Though I filled the shop stove good, it’ll probably burn out by morning. I’m not going out to fill it though I should. The thermal mass of the concrete floor keeps it from dropping too cold if I’m slow about restarting it in the morning. That thing is working better than I expected but I’m still dialing in how to keep it from running too hard. Yesterday it was 2 degrees outside and 81 inside! I am damping the pipe about 1/2 way and only a bit on the air intake. I think I’ll close the air down

Was 29f really early this morning, was burning red oak.

At 2 am it had warmed up to 28 below. Went to bed. Got up at 8:30 MLW got up at 6 and put some wood in the stove. Then did it again. When I checked the stove at 9. The back half of the stove was almost completely full of coals. I raked them forward and let them burn for half an hour. Then raked them some more and threw in a big half round of 3y.s. white spruce. That started the day. Several more fills through the day.
Now it's 11:30 pm and I have 2 8" rounds of spruce on the coals getting going. In a bit I'll play with it some more and add to the load and go to bed.
The odd thing about today is, it's been 18 below ALL DAY. It has also blown all day, which is not odd at All. I don't have an anemometer so not sure zakly how hard it's been blowing . But 10 to 25 mph with higher gusts.
The house has stayed very nice and comfortable all day. Maybe a touch on the almost too warm for me and the Maremmas.
Nothing like a good shot of cold to make normal cold feel warmish !
