What's funny is that my local Home Depot has the 490 in stock. Echo doesn't list the 490 in their current list of saws. I see that the 4910 is a new version but nobody around me seems to have these in stock. I called two different Echo dealers near me and they don't have it. Maybe just supply chain issues. Do these older versions ever get marked down when the new ones become available or is that just wishful thinking?

Exactly. About the only thing that makes the 4910 not technically a pro saw is that the chain/ sprocket cover is plastic and not magnesium on the 4910. The cases are magnesium on it, just not the cover. The handle is plastic too, not aluminum that pro saws have. These things help make it so light though.

I think Echo cases are all aluminum instead of magnesium. But I could be wrong. Never tried shaving/burning one. :whistle:

booneatl The CS490 was a pretty sweet little saw. A tad gutless in bone stock trim but a quick muffler mod and proper tune opens them up nicely and you'd have a saw with very good build quality for not a lot of money.

Another candidate to consider is the Stihl MS250. They've been around for 30+ years (first as the 025) and would make your old Poulan 4218 seem weak. Simple to run, fantastic parts availability, easy to work on should the need arise and cheap enough to run over and not shed too many tears. $300 is the usual toll. Usually a decent runner right out of the box but they respond to minor mods quite nicely too. The air filters are probably the weakest link on them, as they are pretty small. Keep it clean, keep the chain sharp, and replace the thing every few years.

Oh yeah, the warranty on any saw is only as good as the shop that will be working on it. ;)

20220104_123455.jpg Maybe like this.....thought this would solve my problems but it didn't. I replaced all the fuel lines and the filter. Also replaced the spark plug just in case. This thing is giving me fits.

Thank you Horkn for the information. I have about 3 Echo dealers within 30 minutes and probably 10 Stilh even closer. I have a used professional blower by Echo and it's a beast. I don't want to over pay for a brand but Stilh dealers are close.

That’s exactly what took that wild thing out, line collapsed leaning the saw out and cooking the top end. Not worth fixing

The sad part is, once all the fuel line issues are mitigated, they actually make for a decent homegamer saw. Especially the later models with AV. Those early solid mounts though.... :picard:

While echo's site doesn't say it, apparently it's magnesium cased. Several sites show it to be magnesium.
Echo CS-4910 Chain Saw - Powerhead Only (Pre-Order Only - Not in Stock)

Why their website doesn't specifically brag about it, idk. It's not just this saw that they don't specifically advertise the magnesium case, heck it's not even in the drill down when you try to discover more about it. It's a selling point, make it obvious.

Never been a huge fan of the smallest newer husky, jonsred or wild thing variations of the 38cc stratto saw everyone I’ve dealt with had air leaks real early in life. Definitely not a fan of the 50$ paint job on the husky vs poulan version.

Believe it’s just green and purple 240 husky motor but frame isn’t the same being it isn’t a poulan pro it didn’t have av I don’t think. Might be wrong though

Looked just like this one with the choke and kill on same side, only reason I know it’s a stratto saw is because I was dumb enough to rebuild carb before checking the cylinder and everything else like I normally do.

I just went through all of the saws that echo makes on echo's website. Not a single one mentions that they have magnesium cases. The pro models mention mag sprocket covers. That's it. Even the 7310, no mention of magnesium except the sprocket cover.
ECHO's CS-7310P Gas Powered Chainsaw | ECHO USA
If it's got the mag sprocket cover, it is a mag cased saw.
So in order to really know, you need to look for reviews or ask someone that knows for certain.

I suppose, if echo hired a proper PR/ advertising Dept, then their saws would become more expensive:picard:

I believe aluminum is heavier than magnesium and the metal saws echo sells are some of the lightest. I can't imagine them not being magnesium.

Yes magnesium is lighter than aluminum, most of the magnesium parts on a saw I do believe are an alloy of aluminum and mag but I may be working.

They are mag, at least on ones that you think are. The super inexpensive echos might not be though. I haven't spent much time fondling saws at home Depot.
