I'd like to try a Hultafors Maul. As far as I can tell, it's the closest thing available to the old Wetterlings.

The maul I'm looking for is this one: Hultafors: Splitting Axe/Maul It's no longer on the Hultafors page that I can see, so I'm concerned it's been discontinued.

Does anyone happen to know where this particular maul might be in stock?

Almost the same price as the one you first posted, about $10 more...

My understanding is that Hults Bruk makes all of them, and the general style is the same.

From the reviews I've seen, the Hultafors-branded ones come away with a much higher level of fit, finish, and quality control, which I would pay a few extra bucks for.

Okay, it's below zero while I'm having lunch, and I must be really bored.

The store that has it listed on eBay also has a webstore (and it looks like a brick and mortar store) where they list the maul as out of stock but backorderable.

Their webstore lists it for 209 AUD with flat rate 30 AUD international shipping. Total was 239 AUD delivered to Minnesota, which comes out to 171 USD. Not cheap, but I've purchased more expensive entertainment before that's left me with a headache and regrets.

I put in a backorder (for the maul, not the headache). We'll see what happens. On eBay they say they have four in stock, so we'll see if they ship me one.

That price doesn't seem too bad, I thought they cost more than that, like over $200 USD minimum.
Can't wait to hear how well it works!

On the one hand, spending $171 for a splitting maul when Council Tool and Fiskars both sell ones that are perfectly serviceable for about fifty bucks is just silly.

On the other hand, the idea that someone in Sweden can make a living wage (because Sweden) mining the iron, turn it into an axe head, hang an American hickory handle on it, ship it to Australia, and then send it on an airplane to the United States for $171 is nothing short of astounding.

Must be morning in Australia, because I just got a note that these no longer exist.

I guess it makes me $171 richer.

    I guess so.
I wonder if they're redesigning it or just ending it all together.
