Big Chinook wind came in yesterday with temps up to 49* then heavy rain started in the early evening and all night. All the snow was rained off this by morning and temps in the low 40*'s. It is getting dark and 34* right now with snow flurries. Old growth Doug Fir in the wood stove and Pecan pie in the oven!
Winter is FINALLY HERE in the south. After some CRAZY warm temps over the last week we are finally hovering around freezing. With night time temps in the mid 20's mid 40's during the day, that's cold for around these here parts. Been burning maple all day. As a bonus, I made a nice little box of kindling.
33 here with probably 1” snow cover. Burning oak this week. It was dark when I got home from Ohio, but my daughter said a couple big trees came down from wind. WV had a beautiful snow cover. I could see lots of folks had tested the cables in the medium along 77.
18F here, let the fire in the shop stove burn down & back to boiler heat only. Clear & calm with about 4" of snow. Beautiful night that I missed due to a really long work day. Just loaded some Oak in the boiler. Waiting to see if the big snow shows up Wednesday. At least it's finally a bit more like winter.
2 out right now, they are calling for a low of 7 tonight... Think they missed a little. Just filled the OWB with red oak.
Currently 25 out, 74 in. Only dipping to 20 overnight. Just packed the box full of red oak. Love seeing all the pictures of your fires fellow hoarders! Keep em coming. I’ll try to get one of mine up soon.
Some Mulberry & Osage going in tonight. Calling for upper 20’s tonight & mid 30’’s tomorrow. Then we get back down to single digits & windy conditions.
It is supposed to hit 16f here tonight. I’ve been switching from red maple to black locust. A belly full of locust for the sleepy time.
Burning the bubblin goo still. Good news though. The company has received the part to the warehouse and shipped it out to me. Let’s hope it is the correct one.
34 outside... 69 inside when I woke up.. Threw 4 silver maples chunks in and will probably reimburse before I go to work.
I awoke to a chilly 13° at 4:45am, with a nice deep bed of coals from last night's load of red and chestnut oak. Got the coffee brewing and reloaded this morning with a half dozen fat splits of black birch.
-9 with the windchill this morning. Only had a few coals left in the Regency however one piece of fatwood and some white birch splits (with bark still on) got the stove cranking quickly. A little cool in the house this morning but warming up nicely.
23’/67’. Last day at deer camp. Woke up at 5am to coal embers in both stoves. Filled them up with oak. Weather today will be the most pleasant since arriving last Saturday.
