Wife and I were staying home for new years for a long time now and sometimes didnt see the ball drop. I will be staying home alone.
We'll be here with you Mark. I am decade younger and cannot remember the last time I was up late enough to see the ball drop if that matter. I'm sorry, I know this is new territory for you. It's not bueno at all, I still do not know about several of my relatives being evacuated or not. Except, I could not answer calls when we had to skiddadle in 2012 either so I understand. I pray my cousin my age is ok too, he is EMT for the firestation next to that so no doubt he was called in.
For many tyears now we have treated New Years Eve like any other night. We go to bed at our usual time and the new year arrives even tho we were both asleep. Funny how that works Sometime it would be fun to go to Prairie du Chien on New Years Eve and see the dropping of the carp
Glad I saw this. My niece live there. Her home is 4 miles from the fire. She has left home and is staying at her clinic for tonight. She is an acupuncturist. She just moved into that home a few weeks ago. My brother in-law was unaware of the fire. (her Dad) He thanked me for letting him know. He called Kate and is now comfortable that she is out of harms way. Thanks Heidi, you never know who what or where.
Never been, but I've heard of the carp drop. Forget the ball: Wisconsin drops cheese and cherries on New Year's Eve Here's a list of all the NYE drops/ raisings List of objects dropped on New Year's Eve - Wikipedia
Us too - the last 3 days have seen highs 39-41*. Been heavily overcast with occassional bouts of rain, sleet or light snow. Difference is that we stil have snow cover from over a week ago (not that we got much, it just isn't melting). Even the pathways that I kept clear until the 1" (maybe) of snow last Sunday night haven't cleared. The little snowpack we have is so dense from freezing rain that it keeps everything too cold at ground level to melt. Without sun or a nice healthy wind to disturb that air layer, it's not going anywhere. Yesterday I was finally able to clear the rest of the ice off the lower half of the ramp to my back door.
Same here. Years ago we'd sometimes get together with another couple and play cards, mostly at our place. Our best times were still being alone with each other. Now I'll spend it all alone.
Dennis, I feel for you. My sister-in-law passed right before this Thanksgiving and my brother has spent Christmas and now the New Year almost alone. His daughter lives with him which is a great help, but he doesn’t feel like wanting to go to any one’s house just yet.
Another rainy day but way to warm. We had plans to go to my SIL house but these Covid crap put a end to it. Life sure has changed with this. Oh well staying home with the fam.
Went waterfowl hunting this morning. Got 5 mallards. Cows were too interested in goose decoys so we gave up on geese. Working on laundry chute and closet in basement this afternoon.
Great question. Last night, depending on what forecast you watched, it was 3-6" for our area. To the south, and looks like centered over Chicago was 6+". Watching news now. I'll see if they revised their forecast
