Did a tricky, triple trunk white pine last evening, was hanging over power lines, cable and phone as well as the guys garage....... Started around 5:30pm and pieced it down from 55' up, still have to get the firewood but the tree was down and bucked up by 8:30. Still have a 60' jack pine to do on Friday evening at the same site. May save this wood for the maple syrup production in February. Here's the jack we have to cut down on Friday evening.... Nice load of white pine! Smells like Christmas!! Here's a pic of one of my hands after that sappy nightmare.......Thank God I found out about the vegetable oil trick!!
"It's beginning to smell a lot like Christmas, Every where you cut" I usually wear a pair of gloves working with pine or Spruce. Of course, the gloves then can stand up on their own once they dry and I can barely bend 'em after that.......... I'm curious how many gnarly, knotty rounds you end up with that will end up in the pit pile. Nice take down. Safe and sound. Gooder.
Veggie oil work better than mayo? Cause the wife gives me some strange looks when i started washin my hands with the mayo jug.
I think it's just the oil in the mayo that makes it work. Maybe try chunky peanut butter-- it's got grit!
@papadave I hate wearing gloves when climbing.......makes me slip on my grip. Lol... It's messy for sure!
Yeah, dawned on me after I posted you had to climb. Smokin, like Grizz said, mayo is made with oil so it does the same. I use dish soap after the oil.
Thanks @thewoodlands! As messy as they are, I still enjoy cutting them down....homeowner was delighted to have that tree removed as it has been losing large branches the past couple years and it was right against his newly remodeled 2-story woodshop/garage.
That works?? Wish I had known a long time agoe, we havea monster WP in the backyard and I have to deal with the fallen branches all the time and the every other year pinecone drop.

Pine tar helps you hold onto the saw. Problem is you can't let go. I'll remember the cooking oil trick next time I'm stuck in a spruce
@jharkin @bogydave yes the veg oil trick works amazing......pretty sure it was @Backwoods Savage or @thewoodlands that told me about that along time ago.....Been using it for every pine job and it's awesome!
Other than the fact that they like to snap all at once when you notch and back cut them. I've found that if I make my back cut s little higher than the face notch they seem to hinge a lot better.......
I'm not sure Mrs. Overkill wants you washing up in that nice bathroom sink. Isn't there a slop sink somewhere for that kind of mess?
Every man should install a slop sick somewhere. I don't have one, but I sure wish I had the insight when the home was built. I would have that installed where I could get to it without going through the house. I have a half bath that is handy. I keep a big bottle of GOJO at the sink side and plenty of paper towels and a can of scrubbing bobbles to clean the sink with. I also keep a box of disposable gloves to help save from some of those messy events.
