We recently had a friend in the site clearing/prep business tell me he had some firewood we could have. When we got there, he said he was selling his sawmill, so pretty much any logs we wanted, we could get. This is part of what he has... Several piles of 20-24' long pine logs He has a man picking up some of that for his mill and he didn't want the hardwood... Some oak, hickory and tulip poplar in this pile Piles of hickory and oak Oak pile Pile of mixed pine and hardwood We took the tractor and worked a few days. Some of what we dug out. Even found a little ash And a couple big elm logs We have hauled 3 dump trailer loads home Most of the logs were 16-18' long, so we cut them 10'6" to fit in the trailer. Got a friend at work that burns wood. He went with me 1 morning, we carried them a load of the cutoffs. Got those 3 loads sorted out Thursday morning.... Long oak pile The hickory pile...clean barkless 10'6"logs The ash logs, fresh cut ends. Holly behind it. The pile in the back, left of the splitter is shorter red oak and water oak we got on this load...took down the trees for a friend And a few pieces on this load of pecan, neighbors had 2 big pecan trees trimmed up, oak, sweet gum and smaller pecans took down. Got about half the yard cleaned up so far. Gum went to the burn pile. We added the pecan to this pile...
Yeah, what he said! You're making me think real seriously about quitting my day job Jeff. I've got well north of a 100 cord I can skid & haul if I could make the time.
Nice score Brother...I would keep your day job because you and your Hunny definitely do not look old enough to get Medicare and insurance is really expensive! Love you kids, good luck with your decision!
Score! And you have the equipment to deal with it. I'd be having to move all those logs by hand... but I'd still do it.
