So one of my daughters ( 17 ) decided she wanted to get in to the firewood business. I worked out a deal with her. I will basically do all the felling and bucking etc , she will split it and stack it and we will split what she can get for it. She will be selling what I guess you call a face cord at a time. I had some Ash that was cut last year, split this year and I am gonna let her start with that. She is currently learning how pleasant it is to drive tposts in the ground. Hahah ! I will get some pictures of her final stack by the road when she gets it all set up. I think she is gonna ask 70 bucks for it. Guys in town are getting 75-80 for 16”-18” green crap , this is all 20”-23” ash so will make a nice load for someone.
Great! Good on y’all working together and for your daughter wanting to provide a renewable heating resource. There are several threads here by a few members detailing their kids getting interested in and starting a firewood business, plus dealing with the unfortunate occurrence of wood theft. If you haven’t caught any of those threads, maybe those members will chime in and provide links. Good luck to y’all- keep us posted!
We are setting it inside our fence on the corner , and we live out a ways in a decent area. You never know for sure but if someone steals it I will pay her and just believe they needed it bad enough to not pay for it I guess.
She got her first trailer loaded up. She wanted a lunch break before she stacks it at the road. Haha. Even had the grand baby pitch in to help. Will pay him with hugs and chocolate.
She got it done. We shall see. Told her with 80 degrees tomorrow don’t expect it to fly off the yard but first cold snap someone will snatch it up.
Well , that was short lived. Guy stopped and bought 7 of what we call a rick, 4x8 , wood is 18-22 so whatever that computes to cord wise. She got 75 each for them and we are going to deliver about a mile up the road. She is happy , I am sacrificing some of my wood to fill the order but the smile on her face makes it worth it and then some.
That’s a wrap more like it. I don’t have enough left to sell anymore. He will take green wood tho so I may get her on the woods and see if we can find a big oak or something m for him. He said he would buy all we care to deliver. Heats his shop with wood he said.
Amazing! Teaching that girl some great life lessons!! My boy is 10, we plan on doing this in the next couple of seasons.
I offered my boys ( 10 and 13 ) to do this earlier in the season, they showed little desire. Now they are begging to go find a tree that sis is getting a 525 dollar paycheck!
We started this spring selling bundles at our roadside stand. Daughter is 6. She helps, kinda. We will be closing the yearly fiscal books at the end of the year. I'm betting that will put some pep in her step. I am still trying to figure out how to to attach a link. Kudos on her for wanting to earn some on her own and to you for sacrificing your stacks to help. Its tough to do. Watching all that hard work go away. I had never really planned on selling any, so bagging it up pained me.
