Since it’s 72 here on Christmas Eve I decided to clean my stove and move firewood up to the back porch. We’ve had an unusually warm winter so far and I’ve used a lot of the small splits this year. I decided to make more. While grabbing some of the larger splits of oak some of them felt unusually heavy and got me too thinking that these splits all came out of my holz hausen. I went and grabbed my meter, split the three heaviest feeling ones and tested. All were 14-15%. (In my mind I was guessing 22%.). Evidently I’m getting weak in my old age.
Merry Christmas to all my hoarder’s and if you are lucky enough to have a white Christmas post pics so I can admire them while wearing shorts and tee shirt. It’s been a great year and I’ve truly enjoyed this forum and its members.

Heavy they may be but that just means they'll last a nice long time in the firebox.
I started cutting some of my oak @ 24" and realized it was just too darn heavy so I tweaked them down to 20". It's not just you. :BrianK:

That’s the problem by about Halloween I am sick & tired of mowing the yard. There are folks around here still mowing their yards :loco: :wacky::hair:

If I am going to have to start mowing regularly in Nov. & Dec. I am packing my stuffs & moving north.

I was moved to Michigan from Arkansas when I was a kid. Had seen snow once while down south. We had the winter of 1977/78 & I took to the snow, skiing, snowmobiling etc. right off. Made a living off the snow for years. I've never liked the humidity. I tolerate the 4-5 months of hot sticky weather here to enjoy the cooler comfy weather, sadly not that way anymore. The damp 40ish degree weather seems to be getting more prevalent, I do not like that at all, good for nothing. I want my seasons back.

I opted for a flexible winter plans when i was younger. If it snows, go skiing; if it doesnt, go bike riding.

It also helps to live right next to a mountain. If i want snow, i can drive to it. Then i can drive away from it.

For the same reason people buy boats after they buy a cottage on a lake. So they can get to the other side of the lake. Of course the guy on the other side also has a boat for the same reason.

Pics from this morning. We got less than an inch overnight Thursday. Made the driveway a bit treacherous yesterday. IMG_0046.JPG Light rain today that was freezing on top of it. Downy woodpecker on the feeder. Have to make my way out and refill it. IMG_0047.JPG
