Don't forget air sealing...to me that is 50% of the equation when talking about insulation...maybe even 51%...great insulation and poor air sealing sucks when the wind blows...and great air sealing stinks when it gets really cold, if there is no insulation.

    Yes.
I was actually referring to insulating below radiant tubing/ tracks in or under subfloor so heat migrates to the appropriate structure to be warmed.

Edit- not to forget this is necessary in radiant slab installs and snow melt systems as well.

It might be comfortable to walk on a nice warm floor but it sure seems like a waste of energy to me when I can put on a pair of slippers and accomplish the same thing.

Maybe that is why I only burn 3 cord a year with no other heat source to keep nice and toasty.

Radiant floor will warm up the couch rather nicely that's just 14 to 16 inches off the floor, too.
This is one reason I like a wood stove in the basement - warm floors are oh so nice on the feet.

Not having had radiant floor heat I don't know just how warm they get when it is super cold out though.

Too many people talk so much garbage about stuff they don't know jack about.

Wood stoves make your house smell like a fire / can't burn pine.
    Wool is itchy.
Solar panels won't provide enough electricity.
    Pitbulls are dangerous.
    You'll need a bigger house.

I think we've all had our fill of people yammering on about stuff they know next to nothing about.

I personally think one of the best smells on earth is a load of cherry on the fire on a cold, snowy winter day.

She must have something wrong with her design or construction.
I suspect that they did not insulate under her slab or skimped on it.
If you ever go into a properly designed and installed radiant heated house, it's akin to getting in a (already) warm soft sleeping bag when you're camping.

Yes, generally 2" of foam is recommended under the slab.
