You have a wood stove? Your house must smell like smoke!

Never had anybody say anything about smoke but have had plenty of people say that “it feels nice in here” when they enter.

So far, woodstove smoke is nicer smelling than campfire smoke. We roll down windows in the car when we pass a house with a running wood stove.....makes us feel warm and want to hustle home and sit by the Jotul a bit.

We all open the wood stove door carelessly, just to let a little smell in. Smells nice when it permeates to the bedroom floor above too.....

Our neighbor told us this summer that we didn't burn a cord of wood this last spring!
We didn't burn a cord, we burned almost 5....and they couldnt tell.
Kudos for a great place here that taught me everything I now know.

There was a friend I used to see as a child, who's house always smelled of wood smoke. This would have been late 70's. It was pleasant but strong.

So nice to be in good company!

No smoke smell but I sort of miss the smoke coming out the chimney when I had the old airtight dialed and set the damper. Not billowing just a nice stream of white smoke. I still step out on a start of a new load just to reminisce.

Hahaha! Yep, that's the dinner bell on a rare occasion.
I've got a coat that's only for loading the boiler. I don't care too much for smoke smell. Get a bit if the wind is just right.

You know when you have been working outside for 5 or 6 hours and you come into the house and right away you pick up on any funny odors. I have never picked up on a smoke smell in the house from using the stove.

I have a forced draft indoor wood boiler that at times can be a son of a gun to seal up the stove pipe. On occasions, like just the right wind direction we can get some smoke.
Just like the hog farmer says, pigchit?..... smells like money ,
    a little occasional smoke?.... smells-cozy and warm.:D
We're 100% wood heat and hot water from December on.

I never had anyone mention a wood smell when they come into my house. The best comment I ever had was a sister inlaw who said the only place she felt warm was when she visited us!

Well said Mag Craft . Like others said, love the heat, don’t notice the small unless there was an “accidental or “on purpose” amount of smoke let in the house

When it's warm, 0°F or above . Our stove isn't really Rollin. If the door is opened too fast there will be a bit of smoke come out. But , not too much. Some people smell like wood smoke but most of the people I know heat either fully or partially with wood . None come to mind that smell like smoke.
Wood heat, being a dry heat just feels better than oil, gas or electric heat.
People with electric baseboard heat like to go on about how nice and clean it is. Until there is a cold snap. Then it often has odors of hot dust which is an unpleasant smell to me. And their houses never seem to be warm enough to get comfortable in.
    Maybe that's on purpose :zip:

You get that baseboard dust smell with hydronic baseboard heat too. Even if you carefully vacuum the baseboards in the Fall. Like curing/baking paint on a new wood stove the baseboard smell usually goes away. (or you get used to it)
You can sometimes walk into someone's house that uses nat gas for heat/hot water and smell the mercaptan in the gas.
    Same with HHO.
My house often smells like bread in the oven.

Open fireplace can smell a little bit. I wouldn't call it offensive, but it's there.
Offensive might be a house full of perfume wearers ......

I have a sister in law here that has radiat heating in the floor. They are always cold and it does not work with a crap.
I have never understood why you would want to heat the structure of a house that is exposed to the cold and not the air that is in your house which is going to keep you warm.
That is why wood stoves work so good.

Unfortunately, it sounds like that in floor is setup up marginally at best.

I have been in houses with infloor heat on every level, including basement and attached garage, and it is sweet.

Agreed. Incorrect install, on many points.

Ya, in floor heat is very nice for people and cats and old dogs. However , when it get Really cold the floor can get too hot and the house air not warm enough. With proper construction that can be mitigated quite a bit.
One of the things I like best about I floor heat is how silent it is !!
I don't mind the sound of a small air circulation fan. But listening to shop heater fans bothers me.
I floor heat is a must IMHO for a shop floor in Alaska.

Totally different animals to me, campfire smoke messes up my eyes, nose, throat, wood stove smoke does not.
