Two of the grocery stores in our area have rib roasts on sale for $5.99/pound and $6.99/pound. . They also have bone in prime rib for the same prices. My wife bought a 2 rib roast last week and it was excellent. Prime rib has been anywhere from $12/pound to $15/pound so I'm taking advantage of the price. I'm going to buy a couple more and stash them in the freezer with all the other steaks I bought in the last 2 weeks. I have a vacuum sealer so they will keep for a while.

By the way, I consider myself a second hand vegetarian. Cows eat grass and I eat the cows :dex:

So I believe I read somewhere on here that my mouse friends would not nest with pellets?

Some pellets use veggie oil in their presses, and also could be the material the bags are made of. Mice go for wiring insulation and harness looms, ESPECIALLY if made in Asia, where they make the insulation and looms from soy.

Mice will nest anywhere they can stay dry and warm, find food close by and be fairly protected from predators. I don't think that it's that they won't next in pellets, but less likely to do so than in stacks of cordwood. I've found nests beneath the pallets when I've stored pellets outside, but not within the pellets themselves. I would not have thought they would chew thru the bag to get to the pellets, but they'll use just about anything for nest material so not super surprising.

Always have skids of pellets in the barn (clearspan) but I have a pair of mousers in there as well so no rodent issues.

Ah yess.....Having a cat on duty does tend to keep the rodent issues handled.
We have Boots (Tuxedo with 4 whites) in the stable/arena.

    He handles unwanted vermin

A while back I came in one morning to find him rippin the butthole out of a big coon....

Boots is still happily doing his job...not so much for the coon though.
Our Sphynx Kitty upstairs hold down her fav chair and is a great little buddy....
