My Husqv 24 inch is pinching the chain on both sides of the bar, one the "engine" end of the bar. Been tinkering with a screwdriver and a hammer. Just wondering what you all may use when maintaining your bar.

Dang things are running 90 bucks to replace.

A lot of times with heavy use the channel of the bars will mushroom out. You can take a file and remove the metal that has squeezed into the channel and that should some that issue. As far as spreading the channel I have nothing useful to contribute.

Did you recently replace the chain ? Maybe got a wrong gauge chain in the box or if it’s an older chain and it got thrown it could have some bent or mushroomed drivers on it. Can’t see the grove closing unless it got pinched bad or bent a little in one spot.

Just use a large flat screwdriver to open it up, if it’s too wide when your done, close it back up with a 2x4 & hammer. I found just using a hammer will pinch it back if not careful.

90$ for a 24” bar? Is it a light bar or just the standard Oregon built husky bar? I can get a replaceable nose Stihl 25” for about 70$. I thought an Oregon was about 50-60$

The bar tools work pretty well too, has two bearings with one adjustable just put pressure on the tool and run it up and down the bar.

I saw them on eBay years ago but I’m betting a person could make one real easy with a couple cheap bearings and a few bolts and nuts

I know just got derailed into the bar closer which is a far more common problem. I did ask him if chain was a new one or the old chain got thrown, maybe not a bar issue at all.

Yep I always use a screw driver when opening and one of the tools with two bearings on the side when closing.

Good point. It could be that the chain drivers have mushroomed a little and are now binding in the bar groove.

Nah the chain isn't new. Been sharpened a few times by now. The shop said they would just use a screwdriver but I thought someone here may have learned a better way.
