I decided to do a different muffler mod on the 550. It had been done before by the original owner. The little gills in the front were OK in the winter but a little toasty in the warmer months. I'm going to close them up and then add anew deflector on top. I'll get it welded here when the baby takes her nap.
Hi Mike, I have same problem where I can't sleep at night...... Nice job on the 550 muffler mod. Top cover still have clearance??
Yeah its only 3/16" higher than the stock one was. It was loud already with the 3 gills in the front. It was a pain to weld those up without a foot pedal.
The 562/555 is the ones you have to keep low pro towatds the rear of the deflecter. 550/545 is all in front of top cover
I just gutted the 555 muffler and opened the existing outlet. This one is mostly gutted and has the opening the size of the screen. I can install it back if I want and may do it to keep stuff out more than sparks in.
Yes so far. It will get some port work when I get around to it. I put the 046 case back together and a new piston in a 394. Port work is on the back burner until I get them all running right. I want to sell a couple to get some more toys.
Yo Mike, I know you werent a fan of the 2153/346.... and you had stated in the past that you liked the 261 best for 50cc. What made you go with the 550xp and how do you like it?
It was cheap was the reason I tried it. It was the used one from ktoom. I couldn't see paying almost double for a 261. I figured if I didn't like this one I'd get my money back. It does pull harder than the 2153 did and not put me to sleep bucking a 18" log.
