Sister had a big branch snap yesterday due to the winds, hung up in another tree . I don’t do residential tree work anymore but she has a company coming in to get the whole tree on the ground today. Told her save her money and I will get it cleaned up. Maple tree so will make good enough firewood, and a lot of it.
Tree guys around here would run most of that through the chipper. I would make sure she tells them not to chip anything over a certain diameter or there won't be much wood left at all.

Silver maple, so not a huge loss, but those codominate silvers are classics for busting like that, in wind, snow or icy conditions.
I know it’s not the hottest wood out there but I love that it is pretty much good to go after six or eight months. Generally I will cut that for our outdoor fire pit so I’m not using the good stuff when we wanna cook a hotdog or sit around the fire
Before I was so far ahead, I saved up anything I could get and it got me by .....burned lots of silver maple to heat my house. It just wasn't a wood you'd want to bank an overnight fire with.
Same here. Surprisingly not a whole lot of blow down around. A lot less leaves on the oaks that seem to hold them like crazy, will make for easier coonhunting this weekend for a silver limo!
I researched trees a while ago, picking one out for shade in my yard. Silver Maple had the nickname "Car Killer Tree."
Yep, we see it all the time around here. Houses, cars, sheds.... Silver maples, tulip poplars and hybrid poplars shouldn't be planted too close to houses. People want a fast-growing tree, but don't consider the long term risks of those breeds. They grow fast, are weak wood because of that, and are prone to snap out easy.....
Here it seems the Bradford pear is very popular, grows fast and splits right down the middle after it gets to any size, almost without fail. Only have seen one that was a monster but it grew in a fence line and I assume the chain link in the middle of it helped it mature fully.
