Real inventory problem, doesn’t bode well for long term economy.

We just bought a brand new vehicle, first time in 20 years or so since I bought brand new. The used car prices are insane. I was happy to find a new car dealer that was willing to sell at MSRP.

I've been doing more & more bartering of firewood or vehicle repair for anything from eggs, beef & pork to snow removal service etc. I've always enjoyed "horse trading" and it seems to be coming back into fashion. The dollar is becoming less desirable if you can't spend it. I've always had something of a hoarder mindset, it seems to be serving me well currently.

I was just gonna say, is this an egg shortage, or a chicken shortage?
Or are the chickens just sitting at home not working...maybe they need $15 hr too

I'm both happy for you, and sorry for you at the same time.

Chickens, ugh. Delicious, but we never seem to get along. I think processing meat birds in my youth cured me of ever really wanting to mess with chickens.

I think that's not enough social distancing, or perhaps bird flu isn't an issue anymore.

    Maybe little beak masks.

Cleaning the coop is the worst if you have a large flock.

I read an headline/article that the Cream Cheese shortage was in large part blamed on a cyber attack on the producing company. If that's true, Why would anyone cyber attack a cream cheese company?

Can you imagine a lead up to a war, and the Military planning; "General X have you made the plans to hit the Cream Cheese infrastructure?" General X replies, we will bring them to their knees, sir"

Yep, my hybrid Maverick delivery should happen this month, it is "in transit." I never have bought a vehicle new, and I expect I never will again. But the used prices were ridiculous.

Every indication is that the dealer will honor MSRP, I have it in writing and the dealer has been a straight shooter so far. We'll see.

This is the first time I have had to replace two vehicles in one year. Bad timing, but at least the Volt was bought before the bulk of the price escalation took place.

Yes, putting a deposit on a vehicle order risks you being “locked in” to buying from a dealer that may choose to add ADM but trying to find the new vehicle you want in existing inventory can be difficult esp if the vehicle is in high demand. Pick your poison.

I bought the PHEV ioniq from Vroom before used prices went nuts. Just for chits and grins I got an offer from them to buy it back, 10 months and 16K miles later they offered 1500 more than I paid.

I was fortunate to find our last vehicle last summer right at the beginning of used prices starting to go nuts...its was still a pretty good deal...great by standards now though!
I should have pulled the trigger on a different one right at the very beginning of the whole pandemic when everything was shut down...dealer was giving this thing away, but since it was a couple hours away we elected not to make the trip since everybody was supposed to be staying home. Better part of 2 years later and it could still be sold for a good bit more than they had it listed at!

Aren't PHEVs great?! I last filled my Volt on October 4, and am at 1/2 tank now.
