Yes, and that is a big boy. If it were me & you have some powder I'd blow it in half & then use the loader splitter. We'll normally bore about 2' in from each end just over 1/2 way deep, then dead middle of the stem. Guess at the powder charge, fuse it & drive in the wood wedges, light & run. Last time we did an Oak about that size I think it was 8oz. per bore, but I might be mis remembering, please get better info than my aging brain lol. She'll split like butta I think. Some Townships frown on this type of wood splitting, so make sure you get it the first time. Second boom & they start triangulating the noise. Same warning may apply to posting vids. Have fun! Oh yeah & welcome to FHC!
I could go out in the woods and drag stuff out but its way easier when they drop off logs next to my garage for free even if I have to dispose of some of it. I just cut the easier stuff up and put all the crotches and rot in the brush pile. The top of this log with all the crotches is going bye bye for sure
Welcome aboard. Sounds like you have a good thing going with the tree service but those big boy logs bring their own set of problems. Cool that you got a new toy..er..tool. You will enjoy it here! May I inquire what make of boat that is? Just the little bit I see looks pretty salty.
Hate free wood like that!?! That’s almost a qualification for revocation of your FHC membership card. I love scores that size. There’s sooo many splits per round.
Not bad when its bucked and quartered but getting to that point takes alot of work! Its a 24' Passamaquoddy Eastporter mini lobster boat built in Maine, but living on Lake Erie
I kind of started making deals with the tree people who drop off - no shorter than 16", no bigger/longer than anything I can pick up by hand, no small diameter branches. But now I'd say it's more that I pick and choose what I want to bring home, 1/3 of a cord at a time. I've done the hard part of getting ahead a few years...so now I have the luxury of not taking anything and everything I can get my hands on. Now I have standards heh heh.
And yeah that is just a monster of a round you got there. Holy moly. I don't even own a saw that can run a 36" bar.
I was starting to wonder why all the other fishermen are always looking at me funny pulling up empty traps every day
My friend down the road does it every once in a while, gonna be another month before we do it most likely, I'm out of time for anymore firewood shenanigans until mid January.
Hobby boat or do you get in some serious fishing? Boy o boy. Firewood and boat talk all mixed together! Nice.
