I was into the 5000 heavy at one time. That one for $165 shipped is a great deal if she is running cutting.

If they have the balls to pull 3/8 I run 3/8 on 49cc saws. If they dont then .325. These all pulled 3/8 better so same 3/8 chain tested on all.

Little testing at a mini gtg I had awhile back.

12" rounds in hardwood, pulling 3/8 chain.

Friend did the 325 7 8 and 3/8 test and found the same results.

    325-7T=15.83 seconds
    325-8T=14.50 seconds
    3/8-7T=12.78 seconds

    Educate me
If it takes more power to run 3/8 why does it cut faster?

Only if the saw has the balls to pull it like I said. Some 50cc under stock saws and seen ported ones that had to live on 325. Look at the chip 3/8 takes compared to 325.

    balls = torque

Also why race chain is 3/8 and not 325 on faster saws, 3/8 proven over time faster on strong saws. Only time you see 325 race chain if the saw dont have the balls to pull 3/8.

    Thanks

I just figured .325 would be quicker on a strong 50cc due to the narrower cut.

Looks like I'm going to spend some money switching my 346xp over.

My heated handle 490 didnt have the balls to pull 3/8 so it went back to 325. Which I thought was odd. Being same P+C as 5000 plus. But she didnt have the torque.

Now the 346 50cc I tested was way better on 3/8 over 325. Owner of that saw still has 3/8 on it.

Had a ported 50cc 346 running that narrow knerf 325 and I showed the owner the difference in the cut and now that saw runs 3/8. The narrow knerf IMO is for under powered saws.

Now one thing to think about 325 may be slower but is smoother in the cut.

One would think the Manufacturers would know what works best with a given powerhead. Makes you wonder why they set them up so. Is it all just marketing hoopla?

I even made the switch on my new poulan 5020 that comes with 20" 3/8. I put 16" 3/8 on it as that is what I like on 50cc saws. I then put .325 on it to test it out too. Even the poulan 50cc liked the 3/8 better. :rootintootin: ;) tank5016 004.JPG tank5016 007.JPG 325502038545 002.JPG

Stock MS261C-M. 3/8, .325, and 3/8 Picco/Lo-Pro all on the same powerhead. Wood is very green silver maple.

Saw is known for outstanding torque, so why is the PS3 chain the fastest and 3/8 so slow? ;)

Sorry I had to. It was too easy. I don't like the .325" since I never have other saws that run it. All of my stuff is bigger saws usually.
